Broke a 100!!!!

From a man who regularly shoots in the 90's and 90's only well done.

90 is the next natural target but set yourself a realistic next target. . 95 ish ?

good man.

Don't be too worried if your next couple of rounds are in three figures again, you have done it once and it will soon become the norm to be in the mid to low 90's.

Well done, its a fantastic achievement.

Just remember how much your enjoying playing at the moment it will stand you in very good sted when your scores tumble

Some great advice here, and thank you for all of your kind words! Incredibly encouraging.... and overall was a great feeling. I didn't keep score, but knew I was on for a good one (i actually got 44 on the front 9), and towards the end, a little bit of nerves came in, a few duffed chips, but managed to power through. Totted it all up at the end and I was one happy man!

Well in!

Play the next round just casually counting the score. The first time I broke 100 I didn't know my score until the end of the round. I didn't write my scores down and just tagged my shots as I took them. Didn't even think about it. I found that constantly going to the card actually had a negative effect on my round and how I played the next hole.

And back to reality, one week later, and I shot 103. Didn't feel comfortable at all over the ball, in the shots I was making, and felt like I had too much clutter in my mind!

That's golf!!!

Last Wednesday I equalled by best score of - 100. Third time I've done it so I know exactly how you feel.

Each time there are instances where Ive left shots out there. Last time it was a totally unecessary 8 on one of the easy holes.
Well done mate

Sorry to revisit my thread, but after several rounds bang on a 100 (after breaking it), I shot 98 on Tuesday and 97 today!!!!

I am on gardening leave for the next month and plan to play as much as I possibly can. I just wish I was a member of a club so it was free!!!!

I've FINALLY... started to play sensible golf.... mostly bogey golf if I am being honest, I've capitalised on the par 3s, and still had a few 7s haunt me. But the fact that I have been playing within my limits has meant I keep on getting those 5s......

Just need to start par'ing a few more par 4s now.... :D

Well done sir. I assume by gardening leave you are between jobs. Anything lined up and will you consider membership once youa re working again?

Played last night after about a month off, been having a few lessons which I took to the course hoping they'd start to work and they did. Broke 100 a few times now but my last 7 or 8 rounds have been between 100-108.

Been working on my driving to try straighten it out and the majority of drives were great with the occasional banana shot right, my irons were shot on, distance still not improved much but they were straight and kept in play. Had a short game lesson on Tuesday and have never been confident at all around the green, in bunkers or from 30/40 yards out. Par 3 2nd hole, hit my tee shot green side right, 20 yards out then 15 yard roll to the hole. Did exactly what I'd practiced on Tuesday night and holed it for a birdie, 6th hole par 4, ended up in a steep green side bunker, chipped out and putted to make par. Ended up going round in 95 (38 points) including 2 blobs. The pins were tight too, right at the front of a bowled green, behind bunkers etc so was really chuffed but did 3 putt I'd say about 5/6 times because of the positions.

Need to keep going and practising to keep the improvements but so pleased that I feel confident again and almost every club in my bag I feel I can go to now without fearing the worst.

Hi Homer, yes, accepted a new role already, so I have a month off in between jobs. I am moving home soon a well, so joining a club is first thing on the list when I settle in to the new location! This month, will be trying to find good cheap midweek deals!! Wish I was a member somewhere as I'd be playing every day!

That's good to hear. If you are really struggling with your driver and woods, I'd suggest taking a long iron off the tee for anything below 400yds... Yes, you are probably playing bogey golf and aiming for a 5, but it saves you messing up with an errant drive. I've moved into playing sensible golf and sometimes it isn't glamourous, but the shots are flying off by just keeping it in play. In the meantime, get down the range and keep practising with that driver and woods until you feel comfortable.

Short game tip... for me, I come in quite steep, I watch the club hit the ball, and I commit to the swing... do not decelerate, whatever pace you decide to hit the ball, stick with it throughout!

Another tip... try and capitalise on the par 3s... if you can par them, or even bogey them, you will be saving a shot.

A few people here have said to treat every hole as a Par 5 when you are first starting out, and it really does help. You should save shots on the par 3s, bogey the par 4s, and then maybe lose a shot on long par 5s. If you save shots on the par 3s, you can even have a couple of 7s on the card and it evens itself out.

Get comfortable with that kind of golf, and then you can start working on individual shots / clubs that will save you more and get you down into the low 90s / late 80s, etc.

Took me a LONG time to start playing this way, but helps massively.
