Had a 3 foot putt last night on the 18th to beat my best ever competition score. Was quaking like it was for the Open (sad I know) and jabbed it so lightly it didn't even get to the hole! :o

Was quite ticked off at the feeble attempt on 18 at the time but on reflection I did carry my luck pretty well over the round, scrambling well and holing a few good putts. 29 putts too which is much more like it.

Upside is I got 0.6 off handicap and down to 4.9 which is the best I've been for a while. :)

Category 1 again...phew

Tell me about it - reached the 540 yard par 5 16th in 2 yesterday for the first time this year, 12 footer for eagle (with a stroke to make 5 stableford points), totally bottled it and ran up a foot short.

Awoke at 3am this morning and couldn't get it out of my head - it'll likely be ages until I get such an opportunity at that hole again. But that's golf - you win some, you lose lots.

Well done on your score and getting back to cat 1 though!

Well done fella.

I think I should have more ambition to be a cat 1 player, I bet it takes a lot of practice and time, something HID wont allow me ;)

Been at this level for years, my ball striking isn't great but I am fairly straight and I'm a good pitcher/chipper. Putting comes and goes.

I practiced quite hard in March/April as we have such along lay off up here as winter really is winter.

These days its 2 games a week which keeps the short game in ok nick, will usually hit balls for about an hour once or twice in the week on top of those 2 games.

Putting has improved a lot since I started using my Wilson blade putter, it's a beautiful club with quite a heavy head and I've got confidence with it which is the key to putting.

Join the club need to finish with 2 fours for a 78 scratch ,missed 2 3ft putts for par ended up with an 80 was well narked the two fours would have got me to 9 for the first time am sitting at 9.7 now have come down 0.6 in 3 comps this season. :(

What would Dr Bob Rotella say? Have you read his books? They have certainly helped my game.

"Hit it harder" ??? ;)

I have read one of his books and unlike many on here I wasn't blown away by it but found it rather repetitive and waffley.

It was obviously the bright sunlight that has graced Aberdeen this week that put you off. You're not used to that amount of sunlight in one week. ;)
