Right firstly I'll start of with my HCP: 20

My short game is by far the best part of my game and I really enjoy the challenge around the greens (Trying to pull off the impossible)

Now the question... I really want to add a Vokey wedge to my setup below but I don't want to buy one that's not going to offer a lot of differenc compared to my Burner 2.0 SW (55*)

With my SW I really have to open up the face to get a high (over a bunker) with minimal roll shot. This then leads me to some strange setup positions.

I was thinking 58* or 60* degree Vokey to help me get a higher ball flight around the greens without opening the face. Would a Vokey be ok at my HCP (I would say my short game HCP is a lot lower) and which degree would you go for out of the 2? I am leaning towards 58* but will I notice a big difference to my (55*) SW in terms of higher flight with minimal roll?

Thanks for any help :)

No reason for you not to buy a Vokey they are very good wedges and have seen them used by plenty of good and bad golfers :)

Personally would get the 58 not the 60 (im not a huge fan of 60 degree and above, even more so for higher handicappers)

I carry 54 and 58 degree vokeys and the gap is just over 10 yards, be surprised if you dont see similar to your 58, and if not you can always get it bent open another degree or 2

I pitch with my PW from 80 yards in 3/4 1/2 1/4 swings, I'm after something for around the greens i.e 15 yards to pin over a bunker to get up and down without opening up the 55* SW too much.

No reason not to buy a vokey if that's what you like the look of, I have recently changed wedges but went for Cleveland just preferred the way they sat compared to the vokeys, I'm also in favour of a gap wedge but each to there own.
Go have some fun shopping for new shiney. :)

I'd go with the 58 if I was you. The highest I carry is 56. Think the 60 is a hard club to master. Read an interview with Graeme McDowell once where he said an amatuer should never carry a 60 degree as he felt it would be too difficult to get consistent with

I find the concept of buying a wedge for a specific purpose, that you are then going to open up to play the shot you want it for, to be slightly strange...

Just get a low bounce 60 or 64 (60 is fine :)) from one of the good specialist wedge makers - there are a few excellent products out there but I would get one I like the look and feel of

with this amount of loft you stand a chance of hitting down through the ball rather than trying to scoop it - thus avoiding the real issues that most 'handicap golfers' apparently experience.

it will also provide a good club from firm sand and high bunker faces - if you ever meet them!

This is why I want a higher loft so I don't need to open up my 55* any more. I think I'm going to go 58*

One last question does anyone know if the black Vokey wedge gets bashed up and looks crap quicker than the standard silver?

spend time getting to know and love it - I see it's in your signature already!

if at some time in the future you feel that a 51 or 52 will contribute to your enjoyment of the game then it will fit in well - alternatively stick with your current approach using the PW and controlled swings; no right or wrong answer.

I'm more excited about getting out there with this club than I ever have been with any other shiny, just love the short game and the creativity you can put into it.
