After all the nice weather we've been having recently, today it is blowing a gale and hammering down.
I'm playing in an Open comp later. Could it not be nice and sunny and calm? And dry?
I played in another Open a couple of weeks ago.
That day it blew a gale and lobbed it down too.
An omen????
:( :( :( :( :( :(

It never rains in Bexhill, give it an hour and it will be sunny again, unlike up north where there's weather warnings of 2 inches of rain all day

Clubhouse leaders until the final group came in. Our 44 points was beaten by 2 and we were "relegated" to 2nd spot, but overally really, really happy with the day.
I was hitting the ball really well and my partner was canning putts from everywhere. We dovetailed really well and on the few holes he really cocked up, I parred them anyway and we scored 22 points on both front and back 9's.
Tyrrells Wood was in absolutely gorgeous condition, the best I have ever seen it. Tees and greens were superb, and the fairways were nice and lush, just how I like 'em.
Won a lovely glass trophy, a sleeve of balls and a beautiful looking Mizuno MP-T11 60 degree wedge which may well be going up for sale on here 'cos I have enough wedges to keep me happy anyway.
As I say, a great day despite the wind.
If you have never played at Tyrrells Wood I strongly urge you to go and play it. It's a lovely track with some really testing holes.

Well done Rob - looks like there is still some lead in the pencil!

Played really well as I say Paul. Hitting the ball beautifully off the tee, the only thing that let me down really was my putting. The greens at Tyrrells Wood are very tricky to putt on, not a flat one on the course and lots of subtle slopes and borrows to take into account. Luckily my partner got the hang of them and putted really well.
I guess if we had been playing individual Stableford he would have racked up about 38 points, me about 34.
My new 7 wood arrived early enough to take with me (fantastic service as I only ordered it on Monday) but I only had to hit it the once during the round.
The 6th hole is a really tough par 4 (SI 1) which was into the wind and climbs steadily uphill to a raised green.
I absolutely creamed a drive down there but was still left with 185 to go, all uphill and as I say, into the wind. Pulled the new 7 out, had a couple of practice swings and absolutely nailed it right out the middle to put it on the front of the green.
Shame I then 3 putted for a bogey but it was 2 points so kept us bubbling along.
I'd never have hit that shot with my 4 iron or hybrid so I'm confident that I'll do well with it over the coming months.

44 points?
I guess that was full handicap?
Will you pass on my congratulations to your playing partner and I suppose 34 pts isn't too bad either.
One question though....when are you going to learn to putt?

No Bob. It was 3/4's handicap.
It came as quite a shock to be playing off 10.
I don't think I could handle that in matchplay

:o :o :o :o :o

I've been putting reasonably well recently if I'm honest. Didn't do too badly at Blackmoor, but the greens at Tyrrells Wood were all over the place (borrow wise). You've got to play them quite a few times to get the hang of them.

Good result Smiffy and well played.

Just think what could have been though if Norm had a "proper" set of clubs and you learned to putt ;) ;)

Well done Smiffy. At least you didn't lose by 1 and think about the 3 putt!

Get in a qualifier quick while you're playing well :) :p
