• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Best irons you no longer play.

Titleist 762's. not a very popular iron at the time but I really got on with them, I just ended up changing for the sake of it, as you do.
I still have a look on eBay every now and then to see if Theres a cheap set worth buying.

Mizuno tzoid pro 2 irons. Loved them and only shipped them out when I gave up in 2000. Might actually see if I can get another set with the stiff sensicore shafts.

Exactly the same as I once owned Brendy, god I loved those clubs and have still never found anything that go as nice as they did. I even had the matching green headed T-Zoid driver and 3-wood with the gold graphite shafts in.

I have the 3 wood sat in my locker complete with dyn gold steel shaft! Really should take it out for the craic sometime.

Ping Eye 2's.

Awesome bats but I guess you just gotta move with the times!

Ping S59 Tours are another that I loved, just not as iconic!

Yep, and yep.

Sold my Ping Eye 2's when I got too tall for them as they were very flat and an inch shorter. Wish I'd have just got them reshafted but got a decent deal on Mizuno blades.

Sold the S59's recently as I saw a stupidly good offer on some S58's and assumed they'd be better. Not sure they were to be honest, but very happy with the current RBladez Tours :)

Taylor Made TD 1-SW
I gave them to a mate's son who was just starting golf and couldn't afford a set.
Replaced with a set of Ping S59s
Which have now been replaced with another set of
Taylor Made TD 1-SW
Good old Ebay :)

Miura Tournament Blades w Rifle 6.0

Partly because 3 and 4 were too hard to hit well, but using hybrids for them now anyway!

King Cobra II Mid Size Irons! With regular shafts

Had a full set of these when I was 15 and loved them. Sold them (no sorry, my ex sold them) as I hadn't really played and was taking up room in the spare room. That relationship didnt last long :)

I do still miss my Nike VR cavities, great feel off the face and the short irons I felt I couldn't miss with the short irons.

Got to admit though my current irons, I will find so hard to let go of as the feel and workability is superb and they are so pretty and forgiving. If its a choice between the Mrs & the golf clubs, I will miss her.

My dads got a couple old sets in his spare room which are in mint condition and look superb he's got a set of Mizuno TP9's, Set of Lynx Parrallax they look so easy to hit, and a set I've never heard of called Rextars they are blades and look so tempting.

Callaway X-14 pro-series, without doubt the best irons i've ever used. I got rid of my original set back in 2003 but then bought another set in 2009 and have used them again ever since. They go an absolute mile compared to other irons, they must be de-lofted? Either way I get on well with them.

Ping ISI copper were a superb set that I had in the late 90's too.

Titleist Tour Model Forged back in the day were just lovely but they made golf more difficult than it needed to be.

McGregor DoctorX were as ugly as they were good. I won a lot of matches with these irons.

Best clubs I have ever had though are the ones I have now. Callaway X-16 Pro irons with Tour Stiff shafts. Brilliant irons that have never let me down in the last 10 years. I have tried a few sets in that time, especially recently, with a view to replacing them but none have been as good. Not even close in fact. I can't see me changing them for a long time to come. I have won 4 prizes (admittedly 3 on one day!) already with them since mid March so if it isn't broke, don't fix it.
