Best bet you ever made/won?

I had £1100 on authorized in the derby when frankie dettori only had to steer him home a few years ago it returned £2100.

I was convinced it was gonna win but was shitting myself at the same time incase it never.

I was bouncing round our house watching coast home!

Playing roulette one night down Hove Sporting Club, doing reasonably well (about £300.00 up).
Number 4 came up and I had 4 chips on it (won £70.00) and as the croupier spun the ball again I noticed that one of my stacks had 21 chips in, not the usual 20. Feeling lucky, I quickly pushed the stack onto No 21 (next door to 4 on the wheel) and the ball clattered into 4, bounced out and dropped next door. Wallop!
21 chips at 50p x 35 = £367.50.
I had Number 5 come up 5 times on the trot once. Don't know how much I actually won 'cos I doubled up each time it came in, but I must have pulled in over £500 for my original 50p stake.
Like roulette. Haven't played for a while.

I had £30 on Liverpool at 50/1 the year they won the 3 trophies, FA Cup, Carling Cup and European cup.

£1500 back though had to watch it all unfold over a few months, sitiing in the pub, drinks in hand night after night after night - happy days!!

The odds of that happening are 69,343,956 to 1

Back in the mid 60's my father had several greyhounds which he used to run at Hendon, now the Brent Cross Shopping Centre and Hackney Wick where they also had a speedway track, and soon to be the Olympic Stadium near Stratford.

Any way they had a bet called a Quinnella where you had to forecast the 1st and 2nd in three specific races. I had got through the first two rounds with 2 tickets in tack, and edged my bets selecting the 5 dog to win and with either the number 1 or 6 dog to come second.
I can remember standing near the finishing line watching the race and see the 5 dog win with a photo finish between the one and six. I ran and told my father that the 6 dog had just held on to claim 2nd place, which after the photo had been looked at was confirmed. 5 first 6 second.

Pay out £35.12 shillings all for a 5 shilling bet. Todays ratio would be £142 for a £1 bet, but thats after inflation. Wouldn't have a clue how much it would be now taking into account inflation, but a guy who I work with started work in 1965 and his gross pay was £5 2 shillings 6 pence. (£5.12) I can remember a kit kat or a cadbury chocolate bar being 6d (2 1/2 pence)

The thing is I soon learnt that there was only one winner (the bookies) and now only bet on silly bets down the pub on cup final days.

Opening day of the Premiership last season

£2 bet on an 8 fold.

Come 16:50 I had 7 correct, as the last game was Everton Arsenal at 17:15.

Had Arsenal and started having images of Tim Cahill runing my day.

Anyway had to pop out.

Checked the phone, 30 mins 0-1, then 40 mins 0-2, half time 0-3

Final score

Everton 1 - Arsenal 6.

Don’t know what I was worried about!

Went down WH to collect my £768, they had to pay me by cheque as had insufficent funds, not a greater day in gambling!

More likely the wheel was out of balance.

I had 25 pound on arcalis at york when he won the John
Smiths gold cup at 20-1,then backed him at cheltenham in a
hurdle race which he also won at 25-1..never had that kind
of luck since

Had a works thing at Doncaster races with our MD. Took £50 with me, had a couple of winners and places in first few races all chosen from the names before we arrived. So thinking i know everything there is I change my £5 bet on the next race from what I had chosen, had something to do with my grandads name to another horse. The original pick romped home at 50-1, gutted!! Next race think that's it can't change my original picks but really fancy this other horse aswell, lady booth says put a tricast on, I'm a bit skint by now so put 50p each way linked to all 3. So bet cost me £3. They all came in 1,2 &3, winning me just short of £300!
