I have a (probably stupid) question regarding short shots.

Say you're 50 yards from the pin and you will hit your shortest club 80 yards with a full swing.

Is it better to make a full swing (motion wise) with reduced power, or a reduced motion swing (i.e. not as far back in the backswing) ?

thanks

Is it better to make a full swing (motion wise) with reduced power, .....

put it this way - trying this one is a recipie for total disaster.....

don't tinker with your tempo (which is a reflection of your swing speed/power what ever you wish to call it)

simplest (ultimately what's best for you will be established over time) start up solution is to establish 'your half swing' - it doesn't mater how far back you actually take it, it just needs to be comfortably repeatable. now find out how far the ball carries with that swing and each of your shorter clubs and you will have an answer to most distance related challenges in terms of club X and swing 1 or 2. Gripping 2" down can be used as a further fine tuning solution on top of just these 2 swings.

Same tempo as all shots just go shoulder to shoulder for 3/4 shots (or waist to waist for half shots or knee to knee for 1/4 shots)

That's how I go anyway and I always grip down too and play the ball a little further back but it works for me
