used to do both wine and beer. wine was best, always used fruit.

first thing, everything has to be scrupulously clean - every time. sterilize everything, the stuff you get for babies bottles works fine. anything stained or old - replace.
don't know what your water is like, boil and filter or if it's really hard or nitrated, buy bottled.

don't know what the costs are now but the savings were never that great considering the work you put in.

Really good real ale at less than 50p a pint (Woodfords is the best I've found), decent wine from named variety grape juice from £1.50 a bottle. Once you get into the swing of it, it's not too time consuming - maybe an hour or so in total for a 40 pint brew of either.

Only extra is a one-off cost for the brewing bin and pressure barrel for the beer (or use empty, sterilised beer bottles with new caps). Used wine bottles can be also used.

Good quality at those prices
:) you would be not to.

I get all my stuff from http://www.brewgenie.co.uk/ who give an excellent and friendly service. I'm not connected in any way to this company other than as a satisfied customer.

I remember my old man trying it when I was a nipper. I really don't remember him having much luck with it though.

I like the idea of it, but lack of space is an issue at the moment without adding a brewing kit.

Good luck. It sounds as if you've found some experianced assistants on here though. It's amazing what a golf forum throughs up.

Moonshine next?

Remember when i worked in Sweden ,the Swedes brewed there own alcohol it came in lemonade bottles ,the guy had a still in his cellar, he stayed in a block of flats, lethal it was.
We drank it straight ,the guy went mental ,he said your ment to put grape juice in it to kill the alcohol content slightly after 2 glasses of that i could barely see , it took 3 days to recover after drinking that.Happy Days , maybe thats why the Swedes are all nuts. :)
