I play on a slopey course and splitting a fairway can still require a grip almost down to the steel for the 2nd :(

I play with a strong grip anyway so this shot requires an aim so far right that the resultant big draw (almost a hook) is unmanageable. Especially for the odd inexplicable straight flight.

So simple question: Does anyone weaken their grip instead of/together with aiming right to counter the slope?

I assume you hit one less club for this shot, so hitting a 6, not a normal 5 for a flat lie.
I would suggest you aim a little right, hit the normal 5 but with a shorter punch swing

No!! One more club usually.

I find the shortening of the arc(?) imposed by gripping so far down outweighs the effect of the draw spin.

Distance isn’t really my issue. More the ball coming in to well protected greens at such an angle.

Is a weaker grip an option bob?

Like the idea of the punch.
