Back to the Future! TaylorMade fitting opportunity

Good question.

Typically, 'burner' guys have been more the grip it n rip it type. Not always, but as a huge generalisation. Burner's always been about speed / distance and that ethos continues.

'R' players have generally sought out our more technical clubs. Again, not always, but that 'R' means something to golfers - people have stayed loyal to it over the past 15 years whilst it's been #1 on Tour.

There's more reasons to why (and I could waffle on about it for hours) but chances are, if you bought R7, you did so for the MWT. So the pattern follows. If you're looking a driver 7 years later, it's likely that the tech offered in R15 will be a good fit :) Same with the Burner products, there's every chance you bought a previous burner cos it was long, simple and easy to hit ... just like the AeroBurner!

I think I can empathize..
. when I was starting off I was a grip it and rip it guy and seduced by TM marketing. White colours and (a good deal from the pro) I went for the B2. I wanted the R9/R11 but could not justify the spend as I was not sure if I would like golf in the long run.

As the game improved and I understand some more of the physics, I started using the Nike Covert. Did a lot of testing with different lofts and lies on it before locking one in.

Now the Nike is set to higher loft and unchanged until it stops behaving while the Burner is my low loft driver ..

But we want to really demonstrate to those skeptics that significant improvements have been made since the mid 00's.

I'd be very surprised if many people doubted improvements since the mid 00's, but (rhetorical question) how many new models, all claiming to be so much better than the last, have there been inbetween.

Very good point.
If there were 10 clubs all claiming 5 yards that's 50 yards further.
As we all know its marketing however I expect each club has improved someone to the
point they have changed.
So really they are all probably longer but to certain players not everyone.

My driving distance has prob improved by around 60 yards in the last 5 years -since my first Burner driver

From the R1 to the SLder it was around a 20 yard gain

But how much of that is down to becoming a better golfer or the equipment or a mixture

I do not feel they need to suit me at all, but it would be nice to have a similar opportunity in North Wales or the North West.
I'd rather a response from Golf Monthly themselves about this, to be honest I don't know why you're getting a bit hot under the collar about my post.

I know you are new but chill out a tad, GM may come on and explain but probably not so i'll try.

GM have recently had Mizuno drivers testing to a number of northerners, no travel involved
GM recently have had a Nike fitting in Edinburgh
GM had forumers do a Galvin Green testing (was it a test or did the just give you kit?) in Southport (Hillside GC)

So, not all southern based but most will be southern based as that is where most testing facilites are unfortunately.

Stick around and join in, you might enjoy the forum and you'll also see the many opportunities that GM will offer for forum contributors..

Ahh phil old boy, that is a tee up if i ever seen one.

Whats your driver distance now? Dont be shy ;)

Its go to be more than 260 yards because a man of your calibre had to be driving it over 200 yards 5 years ago.

Reckon average is around 260 -270 but can hit the 290 -300 mark in the right conditions

5 years ago i was a 24 HC with a massive slice just about hitting 200 -210 yards

Technique more than equipment then eh ;)

I will say if you are knocking it 270 regularly that is a big hit.

I will give you the SLDR extra though, I reckon on a good day my G30 is 15-20 longer than my 913 was but i'll be 270-280 max on a very good day although I have managed to stick it on 2 greens at West Kilbride recently down wind a tad and both over 300 yards; good bounces help on the links though ;)

yeah overall its just better technique but certainly can see the difference between the R1 and SLDR - but the R1 was a poor driver looking back now.Not played much links but they course i have had loved them ( Littlestone and RCP ) and seemed to suit my game

Haven't I just got involved in the forum?

It's not only Golf Monthly who do these sorts of offers, all the other golf publications do the same and they are always in the south. I'm sure that I'm not the only golfer in the north that thinks this either.

Dear boy, you are not in the north, more like south west;)

Got a lovely email from GM towers.... new thing called GM Rewards!! Havent explored it yet, but looks very interesting.
