Back to the Future! TaylorMade fitting opportunity

I do not feel they need to suit me at all, but it would be nice to have a similar opportunity in North Wales or the North West.
I'd rather a response from Golf Monthly themselves about this, to be honest I don't know why you're getting a bit hot under the collar about my post.

Seems like you need to get in touch with Taylormade, not Golf Monthly. See if they can move their UK Performance Lab from Wentworth (the world famous club and current home of the European PGA Tour) to Conwy Golf Club.

No, not Conwy, more nearer Holyhead! lol

Taylormade are based in Wentworth

And if you do get picked to be fitted for over £500 worth of golf equipment then a £50 petrol bill is nothing

Should it be in the North so that people in the South have a long distance yo travel ?

I've been to a fitting at the Belfry with Golfmagic in May last year for the Taylormade SLDR, which is a more central location, so TaylorMade do move around the country.

As have had others no doubt - this one is for the southern area - that last couple have been for Scotland and North West

But so far your posts on the this forum of consisted of complaining about an opportunity being located not near you whilst also talking about the fact you only recently got fitted up via a rival forum ?!

Is there a confirmed start and finish time for the event on 19th March?

I'm currently looking at replacing my burner 09 driver. £130 for flights and car hire to wentworth to be fitted by Taylormade themselves would certainly beat paying £250-350 to buy a new one.

Because they're not confident of any improvement over a club newer than those?

You old cynic ;)

It will be interesting to see if this is the way these things will go in the future. As I imagine TM, or indeed any manufacturer, in return for their unarguable generosity to the lucky people that get picked, wants a nice article in a golf mag showing happy golfers with significant gains in distance and dispersion. And this is one way of doing that.

Not entirely sure why it has to be old TM clubs. One explanation could be that they are rewarding current TM owners, so fair play. Or another is that they do not want any other manufacturer being mentioned in the article.

But you moaned/claimed in an earlier post that they were always in the south? Plus you've also said you have got a SLDR, so even on a moral level you kind of should rule yourself out as it is clearly aimed at people that game older TM clubs.

Hi guys,

The main reasoning for us hosting this event in the way we are intending (old TM product) is to show the development in technologies over the past few years.

We've held (and are holding more) events against more recent product, and on every test measurable, the performance has been off the charts with the R15 and AeroBurner. I've attended two events over the past week where three very good golfers with recent custom product (+2, 2, 3 hcps) went up against our new line up and the results were frighteningly good. The results with higher handicappers and off-the-rack product even more so.

But we want to really demonstrate to those skeptics that significant improvements have been made since the mid 00's. Or those that have stuck with a club that they feel can just not be beaten. We also want to reward those people have been so loyal to us. Brands (including ourselves) have often been too quick to chase golfers who play other brands and have been guilty of not rewarding those who have been loyal to our own.

Happy to answer anything you guys want to know via DM if needed :)

Jimbo,

Makes sense... My only other point is that why restrict it to which product you transition to i.e. in my case, I got a Burner 2.0 driver and a B2.0 3W both stock and never got fitted. These were my first 'proper' clubs about 4 years ago. However it was manageable when I did not know much about the game. As my game developed (but still not beyond the 'it sucks' range) i had to change a few things. I could not control my driver and switched to using a Nike with a stiff shaft - but still use the B2 driver in the winter when i am not murdering the ball or during more genteel games. Also I had to swap the shaft of the 3W for a stiff Fujikura shaft.

My question is.. why should a Burner user look to go for Aeroburner and not try the R15? is that the "transition path" or are both options open.

PS: This is not just a question for this fitting opportunity but a general question as well..

Good question.

Typically, 'burner' guys have been more the grip it n rip it type. Not always, but as a huge generalisation. Burner's always been about speed / distance and that ethos continues.

'R' players have generally sought out our more technical clubs. Again, not always, but that 'R' means something to golfers - people have stayed loyal to it over the past 15 years whilst it's been #1 on Tour.

There's more reasons to why (and I could waffle on about it for hours) but chances are, if you bought R7, you did so for the MWT. So the pattern follows. If you're looking a driver 7 years later, it's likely that the tech offered in R15 will be a good fit :) Same with the Burner products, there's every chance you bought a previous burner cos it was long, simple and easy to hit ... just like the AeroBurner!

Ive tried many times to replace my old Burner 3 wood with new TM 3 woods and nothings come close
and its amazing off the deck.
Shame the opportunity is only for old drivers.
Going on history though the AeroBurner has a lot to live up to.

there were some big distance gains to be had with the Burner i tried back in 2007/8.

i went into a place lets call it Oklahoma Dave's;)

they told me according to their equipment i was hitting it 270 carry with a nice draw.. on a golf course i hit the R7 425 about 200 with a slice;)
