Avoiding comps

As I say...its been like it for 25 years or more.

If Sunday only comps don't work for an individual then its probably best that they don't join a club that holds its comps only on a Sunday. The amount of folk who want to prioritize family stuff, church etc. on a Sunday, will be balanced by the folk who have Saturday commitments (maybe they've got kids who do sports on a Saturday) and wouldn't otherwise be able to play.

Many people do not live their lives on what you might call a traditional Mon-Fri, Sat & Sun basis. Part time working, flexible hours, shifts all have an impact and there are many who are not part of tight knit family groups who don't have such Sunday commitments.

At my club Saturdays regularly see a significant number of green fees and the day is a significant source of revenue to the club....would not be feasible to eschew that revenue simply to hold a parallel comp on a Saturday.

Sunday only competitions are not "rubbish"...it simply is what it is and it suits many people....myself included. I wouldn't be a member of club that didn't hold competitions on a Sunday.
My club holds comps on Saturdays and Sundays...I'd have thought most clubs would do that. My 'rubbish' was accompanied by a 😘 so I'm not too serious about the 'rubbish'...but I don't think I'd join a club that only held its (main?) comps on a Sunday - maybe if the comp extended into mid-late afternoon that might be OK.

No...I saw the blown kiss...i realised there was a less than life and death element to your post. :D

Many clubs hold Sunday only, Saturday only comps...and indeed some clubs hold separate Saturday and Sunday comps and indeed some hold all weekend comps where you can enter either day. With the exception of a few "major" or "fun" comps, our club comps are "all-day" affairs where you can book as part of the main competition block, or, book your own tee time with whoever you want.

As is evident from our "opposing" posts...different folk have different requirements...which is lucky, as if we all wanted to join the same club there would be a ruddy great queue on the first tee and not many of us would get to play.

I don't think about "getting shots" on the course for the different tees.
I play a course off scratch and achieve a score differential. My handicap is only relevant to the other players' handicaps and gives me a finishing position.

Par 70.

Whites 78/6.2, 77/5.3, 76/4.5
Yellows 76/6.1, 75/5.2 74/4.4 etc.
These are the same no matter what my handicap is or how many "shots I'm getting".

At the moment my 8th best is 5.3. Beating that by 0.1 makes no difference.
Tomorrow I have a choice of the white tee medal or the yellow tee stableford.
I find 76 off the whites easier to achieve than 74 off the yellows.
This was true before CR-Par and remains true today.

I'm expecting much scorn to be coming my way, because I've said all this before.
It is true though.
Played a comp on Sunday - mainly to get rid of a score off the bottom of my handicap 20. And my gross 77 got me joint 5th nett, but more importantly for me joint 8th gross. There are some wild nett scores based upon weird handicaps these days, but the gross does not lie.

I had a not-very-good score differential of 7.0 today. (my 8th best is 5.3)
Nett score got me 14th place out of 33.
Got another 2 though.

There you are. Told the whole story of my game today - no need to mention "getting shots".

Played in 7 individual comps this month.
Got a 2nd place, a 4th place and four 2s.
That increased my already healthy pro-shop credit to prompt me to get a pair of FJ Prolite shoes yesterday.
I won't be avoiding comps this year.
