• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

Are you still serious about your game?

No for me golf is no longer that important, as a teenager i was obsessive
Unless you play for a living, golfs only purpose is to provide fun, i can have fun scoring 85 or 75, once golf was the dominant theme in my life, not now.

It would be nice to say i am scratch golfer but no more than that (As a teenager, i would have cut a finger off to say this), but all the effort that is required to get there, its not worth the time purely for that golfing addition to the cv

Very, not so much during the winter but during the season I will practice 2 to 3 times a week and play at least twice.

I'm still hoping to improve or stay at this level as I hope to get in the county seniors team when I hit 55 in a couple of years time.

Ah, you have a realistic goal, that is bound to keep you focused

3 or 4 handicaps get into county senior teams?

I'm 100% as serious about as I've ever been but don't necessarily agree that this correlates with practice, lessons, study etc, etc. For me i get one golfing "pass out" a week and have recently made a huge effort to get as much out of each round as possible, purely by switching on as much as possible for each shot and keeping my emotions in check. I've managed 2 cuts in 2 rounds so far and am currently sitting on my equal best ever handicap.

I am still pretty serious about it....

I enjoy playing and striking the ball well....I am more satisfied when I believe i have striked the ball well and had a rubbish score than when i've score well and hit the ball rubbish. however when the ball striking and score are good i love it as I am quite competitive.

I also don't like playing in the cold much anymore having endured playing in the highlands for 3 years or so....I dont practice much any more as it does my back in...I can stand about 30 minutes or so and then have to stop. If i could I would practice a lot more as I would love to get down to and be able to play to 5 or 6.

I wish I had been this into golf when I was in my teens, instead of being this much into football.

Same here. I only started playing last August (at the age of 36), and I wish I took up golf sooner. At the moment I think about golf all the time and cant wait for the weekend to come around. Im sure that enthusiasm will dwindle slightly as I get more experienced, but for now, I am loving it!

Not as serious as i used to be. Used to really get down in the dumps after a bad round but my Uncle gave me a piece of advice that stuck. He said "your main aim in golf is to enjoy it. Everything else is secondary".

I believe he is right. As soon as i started to focus on the enjoyment i spent less time worrying about my swing and my game improved.

Sure i think about golf a lot, ive rebuilt my swing and it now works which has added to the enjoyment factor but i dont get too hung up the intricacies of my swing anymore or scores or getting to the holy grail of a low hcp.

Still focussed on improving my game, but not chasing my Cat 1 dream as hard as I was previously.

I'm still having lessons and have a competitive edge when l play, but have turned my energy towards supporting my daughter in her sporting development.

I play golf more now as a release or de-stresser. Always trying to score the best I can but not beating myself up if I have a howler...the way I look at it, at least I'm still out on the course.

I'm at the stage where I can take it or leave it now.
I still enjoy it but things have got to be as "perfect" as they can nowadays.
Good weather, good course, good company.
I won't play if it's blowing a gale, peeing down with rain, or if I don't fancy the course.

Nope, not played since october and not sure when i will play next. Membership at my course finishes at the end of next month too and i am not renewing.

I've always been serious but until now never had the time to practice properly and the facilities to maximise my practice time. Got both nowand really looking forward to improving this year ...

Plus I have the added incentive of trying to blow a hole in the YOTF 😉😂👍

I just love getting out on a new course and playing well. That drives me to improve. I know I will never be a low handicap but I feel that my driving has improved no end and always feel there are other improvements to make -chipping particularly.

I think it comes from how your brain operates. I have a very analytical brain - I have a science based job so I am always questioning why something happens. Those that don't think like that may not see things as I do.
