I am serious about golf, even though I do feel that I may have peaked an will struggle to get much lower but I also enjoy playing as much as I can and I have stopped dwelling on bad days on the course.

Since My pretty serious cricketing injury and me retiring from the game due to those injuries at the tender age of 22. I have never invested more time or been more serious about golf than I was last year, I played the most medals I had ever played, got my handicap from 18 to 12 and even won a couple of medals. This year i have been practicing more in the offseason and had a couple of lessons to get my swing a little more repeatable and more on plane for more consistency which has helped me massively. I am really excited for our first qualifier which is next saturday!

I like to play well, and hate stupid mistakes but I just can't take it seriously. It's only a game. No one dies, nations don't fall... Why take it seriously?

Like many others starting out playing golf I found myself constantly thinking of ways to improve and get my handicap down.
Also being from an Athletics and football background I was very competitive and wanted to play in comps.
I was thinking about golf every minute of every day to the point it drove me nuts but I am sure many have been there.
I have been playing since 2009 so not a real long time to others I know but I did everything in my power to get my handicap down by reading, watching videos and practicing almost daily.

I have only really had a 6 month period where I have gone sod it I cant be bothered to read, watch or practice no more and have questioned[not for long] why I actually want to get my handicap lower.

However after hovering around 5.6 to 6.9 and now on 6.4 I am more determined than ever to get to Cat1 and lower and am infact more serious about my game.

Are you still as serious about your game than you have ever been?

Only been playing 7 months. I love to play, and think about the game a lot. Like many new gofers, I am still finding the kit that suits me, and may improve my game. Am I serious about it? I am serious about my family, about my dog, about my finances, and about my health. So again, am I serious about golf, am I fook !!

I've been playing almost 60 years, I'm 69 years old & still striving to improve. Got back to single figures last year after a long period & genuinely believe that I can par every hole on a good day. I go to the range most days when I don't play & never just hit shots aimlessly, I'm always working on something. Unlike when I was young I never give up & try 100% on every shot. Some of my contemporaries are as keen as me but others just plod along, make no effort to improve d never get any better. I find that attitude hard to understand, It's a competitive game, both against your opponent & the course, and to treat it as a gentle stroll, punctuated by the odd bad shot, wouldn't do for me at all.

Serious enough to want to play as well as I can every time I play but not serious enough to put in the hours of practice that would enable me to get much better..
I'm not particularly competitive anymore, pounding Fragger aside.
For me, Golf is to be enjoyed not endured...putting pressure on yourself to play better doesn't do it for me..
I just wanna play👍

Wish I had the time to take it more seriously. I would happily practice every day if I could but work and family commitments are too much. I had intended to do a lot of practice and development over the winter but work went nuts in January and I've barely managed 54 holes since then and I think only one trip to the driving range.

Very annoying, I believe I could halve my handicap if I had the time to play or practice regularly.

I kind of want to play as well as I can. But I'm probably the least competitive person on the golf course. It's strictly a fun way of spending time with good company for me, and if it stops being that them I'm not interested.

You better believe I am.
I've spent too long now putting in the time and effort to call it quits.
When I was in double digits and was asked what id like to get to, my answer was always 5.

Now that I'm knocking on the door of that I'm firmly in the frame of mind that I could play to scratch given the chance. I've already shot a few 73's and on one of those rounds I happens to take an 8 off our easiet par 5.

Silly schoolboy mistake.
But I've witnessed and played against Scratch and plus handicap golfers and have held my own against them on more than a few occasions, off the tee every bit as long if not longer but what separates them from me was their games from 120 yards in.
That's the secret to being a good player.. You have to be able to save par from anywhere around the green when its missed.

Yes still serious about it and committed to improving BUT struggling a bit as not sure what to aim for now. Never ever thought I'd get as low as 5 and kind of had the dizzy heights of 8 in mind as the ultimate goal. I do wish I was less serious, and got less nervous, and put less pressure on myself, but it is what it is and a bit of a character trait that isn't well suited to golf!

I was from summer 2010 until summer 2013

When New Malton went downhill my appetite for golf went with it. Life then got in the way, work and family took over. Kerbal Space Program didnt help :D

I was very serious when I lived in Hampshire, hit the range and course a lot. Once I shot my 77 things just unravelled as the club I was at all but disappeared, how could I get better when I could not play on a good course and could not afford anywhere else?

I always try to play to the best of my ability. If i have a bad shot/hole so be it. I wouldnt let it ruin my round as i play for enjoyment more than the competing. To be honest i play better that way anyway. The more relaxed i am the better i play. I would like to be cat1 but for the amount i play its not going to happen. I dont have the natural ability unfortunately.

I just love golf and it hates me! I am not serious about it at all.

I play for fun and relaxation. I mainly wish to hit the ball as hard as I can and also strike the ball out of the middle.

The score, direction, putting etc is all second to the above and I don't really care about. I think I tick slightly weirdly!

Yeah I am... I have lessons say one every 6 weeks and have come from a 21 hc to 10 in about 4 seasons.
I think I have hit a bit of a wall where I have to decide that if I want single figures then I have to practice more. Not just on a range, but chipping, pitching and putting on grass at the practice ground. Work and living 25 mins from our club tends to get in the way.
Hopefully I will this year... All good intentions and that. The truth is I just enjoy playing with good company and if you asked me what would I rather do, play in a bounce game on here with 3 of the NW Bandits or play in a medal, it would be the former...
