I must confess to being a real fan of the forum, be it golf, footy, cars etc. Why do I feel nothing for blogs? Is it because everyone is at it, either blogging or twittering.
Now, don't get me wrong, getting an insight from a pro golfer or celeb is all fine and well, but something deep oiside leaves me puzzled as to why a lot of folks want to leave their lives right out there on display for everyone to see and comment on. Do I or should I care if someone I do not know (or never will know) has a problem with their game or whether they will break 90 etc?
Am I officially old at the age of 33? I am an IT manager so should I not be more interested in everything internetty?
Surely forums, where you can post progress, failure, questions and have bit of banter far outweighs the other heavily one way methods of communication which to me come over as very "look at me".
Answers on a postcard.

As you'd expect I disagree. I'm doing mine for a number oreasons, but one of them is to get my writing style sharpened in lieu of some potential freelance writing that may be coming my way. The fact that it's something I enjoy and a subject I enjoy writing about makes it easier. I'm not holding a gun to anyones head to read it but hope those that are enjoy it.

As it happens threeoffthetee is getting some recognition from some varied audiences including Today's Golfer (I know) and from a world renowned coach called Andrew Hall (who writes for Golf International and which could open other doors)

With Brendy on this, why would I wish to read about someone chopping it around or keeping a tally on how many putts/fairways hit/bacon rolls ate etc....it is bad enough seeing it 1st hand on many Saturday mornings!

Is Hall taking up the quest to help you toward your distant goal Homer?? Could have the makings of a movie or maybe he's seeing the pound signs flashing as your new 'coach'. ;)

Not approached Andrew yet but seeing as HID has started work at his club (Sand Martins) for him I'm sure she could negotiate a decent price. To be fair I'm happy with how its all going with my current coach and I just need to get out and play more

Being a bit of an old geezer, I've not really got into blogs and twittering - whatever that is :D

As far as I can make out (correct me if I'm wrong) blogs are a bit like those once a year Christmas "round robin" letters from people/relatives you have managed to avoid for a few years, but anything up to 365 times worse

Golfing blogs by amateurs that i have glanced at just seem to be boring recitals of their last round of golf.

Don't we all try to avoid such people in the clubhouse who want to talk you through their net 80 shot for shot?? If I thought I had to go round again I would put my spikes back on!! :p

I don't mind blogs. I think if you are using one as a personal record then that's great and people can read about it.

It's writing "check it out on my blog" that pisses me off... or "more on my blog".

I wouldn't say that forums are any less intense than blogs though as there are people here who pretty much have written their lives shot by shot, woman by woman. Illness, loss and success have all been recorded in these pages.

I happen to prefer forums as they are a lot more interactive than blogs.

Blogs are one guys life... forums are many lives.

All comments duly noted, especially yours JOUK. ;)

I've started my own forum, I don't intend to try and promote it here.

I have written some reasonable articles on there but I'm not going to try and say "Hey, come read what I wrote". If I have something to say I'll say it here on GM.

Just having it in your signature should be enough without having to make reference to it every 5 minutes.

I know where you're coming from though as Homer mentions his blog, then there's the v-easy, improvemygolf etc etc and you are just doing what everyone else seems to be doing, self promoting.

It's tricky for sure... awkward ground to tread. If you don't mention your blog then someone else will probably come along and mention theirs instead. I guess it's worth just asking the mods what they think and then you will know what is right/wrong and my opinion will remain just that.

I guess it's different if other people just refer to your blog/website without you asking them to. Maybe you can let your writing do your talking for you?

Write something excellent and even I will say "hey...have you read this...." :D

Fully appreciate your comments. At times the blog feels like a bit of a millstone, especially as it wasn't my idea in the first place. Bogey still retains all the admin rights so I have no idea what the traffic is like, how many people follow it etc. I think from now on I'll just leave it in the signature and hope those who are interested will click through.

As for the writing style, that's still a work in progress. :D

I don't have a problem with blogs - you can choose whether you go there or not.

I have more of a problem with people who I ask "how did you play today?" and they start with "Well on the first I hit driver a tad left. Left me 185 over a bunker....." Drone drone. Tell me about 1 good shot, and the score, don't make me avoid you forever after.

Your conversations must be really short then?

Is it like this with every subject matter?
