As title, anybody out there still gaming a good old 2 iron??

I was routing through some old clubs in the garage over the weekend. Found an old 2 iron and the titlist 503h driving iron that replaced it (awful club).

These days my longest iron in the bag is 4i. How times change!!

My mate plays a 2iron ping i3 with a full set of mizy blades. Often uses it off the tee with great effect (quite annoying actually lol)

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

I used to carry a Wilson 1200GE 2i that was my most reliable club off the tee. I then bought a 1i, which was no where near as reliable.

Now, like you, a 4i is my longest iron, and I never hit it off the deck, just off the tee on 200 yard par 3s (in the summer!).

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

I'm thinking about getting a 2 iron if that helps........... for use off the deck and the tee ;)

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

When my friend Matt was c/f by titleist for his 695MBs he wanted a 2i. They had to go and hunt for one, as they didn't even know where they were stored. they don't make a bladed 2i anymore, as even the pro's don't want them.

It is very worrying, as this is his 'go to' club, when all else is misbehaving. A bladed 2i. scares the life out of me when we are playing foursomes.

When i was your age i had a 2 iron. McGregor Custom blade. Just the thought of using it now and i break out in the sweats. ;)

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

I got my Titleist CB's early last summer, and the set was 2 - PW, and I immediately put the 2iron in the garage.
However, late summer, I thought what the hell, I use my 3iron well, and so started carrying the 2 too.

To be honest, after a summer of golf, I hit it well, and will keep it in the bag this summer too.
However, I dont think I'll be attempting a strike with it before May ! A thinned 2 iron may just shake my fillings loose.....

Oh, and I play often with a +1 H/C'er, who uses a truly bladed 2iron to massive effect, tis a thing of beauty to watch that shot I can tell you !

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

Hi guys, am new on here, i used to have a mizuno tp9 1 iron, it was like hitting the ball with a butter knife, incredibly difficult. still have a full mizo set of blades 3-pw, and the 3 iron takes a lot of concentration to hit well.

suggestion - get the 2 iron, then you'll have to get in the zone and concentrate on each shot.

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

I have a 2 iron but its out of the bag for winter, though I fully expect it to go back in the bag in spring. Tends to become a go to club, especilally off the tee on tighter par 4s

I've got 2 actually. A Mizuno MP HiFli that's got a bit of meat to it. I use this in summer off the tee when the ground is rock hard and driver is too much on some holes in these conditions and if its very windy its good, you can get a nice low ball flight. I also have mp32 2 iron that came with the set, which tbh I don't tend to use on the course. Have taken it to the practice ground and hit it ok, but the Hi Fli does fine and is easier to hit.

Played with a guy couple of times last year at opens and he had an old driving iron and no driver. He hit this thing miles, almost as far as I was hitting the driver.:p

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

I do. I have a Ping Zing 2 iron that I use instead of a 5 wood or if I need to move a long shot in the air from left to right by a fair bit. Nice club. I experimented with a hybrid for a while but it doesn't fill me with confidence so have gone back to the 2 iron.

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

Had a Ping Zing2 1 and 2-iron - forget the Mizuno blades, these things would really get the ball going.....usually sidewards or worrying the ankles of those in front

You attending any of the forum meets south of the border this year? Would love a bash with the MP-32 2 iron. Might even buy it off you if you're willing to sell and I can hit it.

Re: Anybody use a 2 iron.

Hi guys, am new on here, i used to have a mizuno tp9 1 iron,

I've got an old Mizuno T-Zoid 1-iron in the bag, the head's massive, goes nowhere if you catch wrong but in the hot summer on baked ground I hit a 343 yard tee shot with it and laughed my arse off! I expect at least 100 yards of that was along the ground, nice low draw tracking the slight dogleg, landed on a gentle downslope and just took off like a scalded cat!

On the other side I caught it a bit out the toe another time and it barely went 150 yards! Swings and roundabouts really.

I had a 2-iron with my old set of Titleists, I loved that club, never used to hit anything else off the tee but then I couldn't hit a driver to save my life. I'm much, much more reliable with the driver now, so the long irons don't come out so much. Still can't hit a 3-wood or rescue club for toffee though...

Prob won't it's just too far, might make Goswick but not sure yet.

Not sure i would sell it anyway like to keep the set together.
Heads on the MP32 are about half the size of the MP57 :D
