Anybody use a 2 iron??

Mizuno fli hi driving iron that I carried along with a 4 wood, the driving iron/4 wood combo was fantastic, the 4 wood was long and high and the 2 iron was low and running.

I used the set I just gave away for about 8 years, but really only did 3 or so rounds a year or a stint of 3 months in the summer at weekends.

When I took up golf seriously last spring I went out and bought a driver and a 5 wood. I do not think I will get on with hybirds, I much much prefer the 3 iron!

I also have a 1940s 2 iron that I love hitting, I hit it so well I was tempted at one point last summer to put it into the bag. Hitting it feels fantastic.

I will be using the 3 iron of my new set frequently!

It all stems from those first few forays into golf ages 12.

My clubs for 2 summers were a 3,5,7 and 9 pinseeker blades. Still have some survivors around at my parents house. I intend to rescue them in March!

I want to get a 3 and 2 iron as I find them better to hit than the hybrid. Just a personal preference as I can't seem to get on with hybrids and find irons more comfortable.

Love the confidence of those that want a 2 iron. How many pros use one theses days ? Olazabal, not many others, a lot have got hybrids for a reason.

I've got 2 actually. A Mizuno MP HiFli that's got a bit of meat to it. I use this in summer off the tee when the ground is rock hard and driver is too much on some holes in these conditions and if its very windy its good, you can get a nice low ball flight. I also have mp32 2 iron that came with the set, which tbh I don't tend to use on the course. Have taken it to the practice ground and hit it ok, but the Hi Fli does fine and is easier to hit.

Played with a guy couple of times last year at opens and he had an old driving iron and no driver. He hit this thing miles, almost as far as I was hitting the driver.:p

You attending any of the forum meets south of the border this year? Would love a bash with the MP-32 2 iron. Might even buy it off you if you're willing to sell and I can hit it.

Prob won't it's just too far, might make Goswick but not sure yet.

Not sure i would sell it anyway like to keep the set together.
Heads on the MP32 are about half the size of the MP57 :D

I like a challenge! :D

Love my i15 3 iron. Wish Ping did a 2 iron as I would buy it tomorrow and ditch the hybrid.

You could get close to one.
get a 3 iron and ask ping to deloft if.
Add a 1/2 inch plug to the grip and you wouldn't be far off.
You'd have to get a felt pen and write "2" on the head though :D

If anyone has one of these kicking about, I'd be very interested :)

I know.
He's been trying to sell that set for ages.
10 irons for £79
I offered to buy the 2 iron but he wants £30 including postage...for one club

If someone does want the set, Ill give you £20 inc p+p for the 2 iron so you get 3-sw for £59 :)

I've got my old Titleist dci 2 iron in the garage. Had it re-gripped last year with the intention of using it but never got round to it. I used to use it all the time , it was great to drill one into the wind or crack one off a tight lie.

I've spoken to the pro who's getting a delivery of the Mizzy mp 2 irons at the end of the month. I'm going to give one of them a bash and see if it can replace my 3 iron. Quite happy with my 3 iron but wanted something with less loft. I dont like those hybrid thingys

Got a MP Fli-Hi 2 Iron. Only had it a week. Liking it so far, gives a very nice flight and some roll out. It carries as much as my woods but probably about 10 yrds extra on roll out due to the flight. perfect for the shorter par fives off the deck. A little too short for all but 1 of our par 4's

Saw an aging Arnold Palmer cream a 2 iron last night on Shells Wonderful World of golf off the deck onto the green on a long par 4. Ball flight looked awesome...

I've actually never tried to hit one, but given my success rate with the 3 iron in my old MacGregor's , i think some things are best left alone !!!

I think I need one of these.

As title, anybody out there still gaming a good old 2 iron??

I was routing through some old clubs in the garage over the weekend. Found an old 2 iron and the titlist 503h driving iron that replaced it (awful club).

These days my longest iron in the bag is 4i. How times change!!

My mate plays a 2iron ping i3 with a full set of mizy blades. Often uses it off the tee with great effect (quite annoying actually lol)

I use a 2iron occaisionally but I always carry a 1 iron ( Wilson deep red 16 degree )for position off the tee on some holes, also used in windy conditions and also for some reason I have never been able to control a fairway wood but use the 1 iron off the deck no problem :D

If your like me Griff its a shaft length issue.

I can do irons no problem but put a wood in my hand and I loose all sense of direction.

I recently had a new shaft put in my woods and the fitter took a fair bit off each one. My 5 wood will still go a lot further than my 3 iron but they will be a little closer than they would have been at stock length.

Used to play with an old Army Major - must have been 75 if he was a day.
His longest club was a 1 iron, made by Wilkinson Sword I think. He was the only one in the whole club - including the pro - who could get anything out of it at all. I tried and knobbled it 100 yards or so.

I've never had more than a 3 iron. I've now not got more than a 4 iron.
Can't long irons with any consistency - when I do they fly, it just doesn't happen enough.

I use to have a Wilson Tour 2 iron. I got it when I went through my Wilson phase c1998-2000 and thought it looked good and I'd hit it no problem. When it was good it was a thing of beauty and so soft and silky off the face. Get it wrong and it was mean and ultimately cost me way too many shots.

I've got an old Swilken 2 iron. I used to love it.

Then I was 4 over stood on the 15th tee and hooked the damn thing OOB!!!

Our love affair was over....... :D

It's in the loft so one day, I might get it out again. :D

Or you could get a Ping i10 or i5 series as they made a 2 iron for them :)
