Any tips for anything inside 75/50/25 yards?

These shorter shots are easy to play if you have practiced them. It's like anything is easy if you are good at it.
You should always play to your strengths and if that means laying up to 100 yards, so be it.
But one should not close their mind to learning something new, especially when it is a relatively easy skill to learn and you'll increase your number of chances for birdie.
I think if people learned the basic 50 yard shot, that would be a big help as changing clubs and using the same technique would result in different distances.
For example....
LW...9-3...bottom of the grip = 30yds
SW...9-3...bottom of the grip = 40yds
GW...9-3...bottom of the grip = 50yds
PW...9-3...bottom of the grip = 60yds
etc
Or
Find your favourite wedge and vary the length of swing to suit the shot

For two different shots (high and lower) or just a distance thing?

A bit of both the 48 runs out nicely when there’s plenty of green to work with. The 58more if I’m short sided and need height and a soft landing.
I do open up the club face a bit on all pitches and chips and virtually eliminated duff shots

Most golfers have full swing lessons when the wedge game is gold.
Some of my most memorable golf shots last year were chipping close for up and down when I had a good round going

Get a chipping lesson and practice, practice and practice some more.

Personally I play on a feel for distance. Others are keyed in on carry distance and play to that but I like to visualise in on a landing spot and knowing my distances is just an influencer.

Oh, how I wish there were more 18-hole pitch and putt courses of good quality for serious golfers to have seriously competitive games on.
Ideally, I would have the holes vary in length from 35 to 90 yards.
Nothing like a bit of serious competition to improve your golf.

Classic forum knowledge.
The guy says he has a shot that works for 110 but doesn’t have a swing for 75. I love your positivity and understanding of his golf game. 😂

I mean, the overwhelming stats released by Arccos and Shot Scope show that golfers. in general, will hit it closer from 75 yards than they will from 110 yards. There will, of course, be occasional outliers. I'd guess there is an expectation thing. Golfers tend to think from 75 yards they should hit it to 5ft, and get annoyed when they don't....but from 110 yards, they are happy to hit it to 25ft....when in reality, hitting it to 25ft from 75 yards is very good

Great idea, a previous club I was a member on had an Academy course - 6 holes of less than 100 yards so great for practising the short game. Unfortunately, none of my mates would play it as it wasn't a 'real' course so no competition to make it more focused.

Pitch and Putt courses are certainly no place for gutless wimps or scaredy-cats. ;)

The first course I ever played was a pitch and putt. I got a 7 on every hole, and thought, "Yeah, this is a game I'm great at. Let's take it up as a lifetime obsession!" 🤣
Same start for me. But I had already learned to putt before moving up to pitching. Actually, at age 8, 75 yards was a full shot with a mashie.
I got better at it fairly quickly. Never lost that feel for those length of shots that I learned to do at a very young age, before moving up to a full-length course.

I agree. My wife has taken up the game in the last couple of years, and I've played a lot of short nine hole courses with her. Playing them improved my short game quite a lot.

Nice one for the replies. I’ve had a good read through and I’m aiming to practice a lot over the next 3/4 months. The big downside to my club is the practice facilities. Unless you want to spend a fortune at the driving range for balls you can’t retrieve then there really isn’t anywhere to practice the short game. The field behind me seems like a cost effective way to improve and my purchase today sounds like a good investment to getting that handicap down 👌

The stats may say I'll hit the ball closer to the hole the closei I am to the hole but...
I feel more comfortable hitting a 100 yard wedge than a 45 yard half shot.
Whether that makes any real difference i don't know but if I've got 45 yards left I feel more pressure to get the shot right.
And more pressure, for me, leads to more chance of getting it wrong.

On to these stats
They come from Arcoss and Shotscope and whoever else collects them....
I appreciate that they have millions of shots at their disposal but....
How many people actually use these systems compared to how many people don't use them.....?
Statistically there's probably enough data to suggest one outcome over another but unless the majority of players are producing stats surely it's possible for the outcome to be the other way round.
Its not easy to find out how many users these systems have...all I can find on a quick search is 13 million + rounds are in the database - that's a lot of rounds.
But I bet there's been a lot more played by non-users.......what does their data tell us.?

Says that you need to find out why you feel pressure to get the shot 'right'. What does 'right' mean to you. Hitting the green from 45 yards is essentially getting it right.

It comes from players thinking they should be hitting it to 5ft. Which is completely bonkers.

Unless you hit it to 5ft. We are more than likely going to two putt. So if you are going to 2 putt anyway, just accept that 20/30ft is ok and take the pressure off.

bingo. Think golfers would enjoy the game a lot more when they realise what 'good' actually is.
