Any ideas on alternatives

Which is what I was thinking. So when the pros generalise and say that all 'average' players should use at least 10.5 degrees or whatever, they are wrong.

Yes, I suppose so. The thing is a proper pro golfer is going to see an average club golfer as a short-hitting 18 h'cap who does nothing very well.
There's a chap at my club (off 7) who uses a 9 degree TM R7 and hits it better than anyone else I've ever played with...including our scratch boys. A bit like Danny Willett only a little shorter. He's awesome with the big stick. If he went up to 11 degrees, he'd lose distance for sure.

Don't worry about the loft. Ping is well known to produce clubs that often have actual lofts higher than stated. By as much as 1.5 degrees.

If the OP hits it 270, he has plenty of swing speed and the Regular TFC is horribly unsuitable. Harrington is a great golfer and knows his own game very well, but experienced teachers and fitters give different advice to many players.

Reshafting to a more solid shaft seems like a no-brainer option. The UST V2 is a good shaft and not too expensive, and I also like the ProLaunch Platinum and Red.

In my opinion Taylormade Burner stiff shaft 9.5 Degree loft. Powerful penetrating flight. Try and pick up a 2007/8 model if you can find one. Newer models just havent looked as good since they started messing with the shape of the head.
