Well, Fragger and Me waited on every single tee shot today, and a good few more besides.
Initially behind a 3-ball of Ladies who eventually let us through on the 10th
Immediately we were up behind a bunch of serial "they shall not pass" numpties who, true to form, held us up.
Couldn't get any rhythm going - not helped by the fact I was playing like a God-Knows-What....

But the day was brightened on the 17th.
There was a stiffish breeze coming right to left. Fragger had the honour and picked up some loose grass to test the wind direction.
I asked if it would change the shot he was going to play.
"Not much" came the reply " I might aim a little right to allow for the wind"
"So I'd better radio the greenkeeper mowing the next fairway (300+ yards away right and at about 45 degrees to us) to look out then" I said...

Fragger takes his stance, begins his swing and makes a decent contact.

And the ball flies 45 degrees right, straight towards the greenkeeper (still 300 yards away).

Couldn't have planned it any better - sheer quality from Fragger.
Brightened up a really slow day.

always good when you can make the most of an otherwise annoying day.

I too hate being help up and since I'm insured, I now give slow players in front 3 holes grace, then I send in a warning shot. Maybe stir up some forum members but I bet I'm not the only one

I assume that's personal insurance for when someone walks back down the fairway and clocks you one?

not at all. Why should I be polite enough to allow people through and others be pig ignorant. If they do complain and trudge back down the fairway it gives me the chance to remind them that most clubs have (and ALL clubs should have) signs saying avoid slow play, be courteous and allow faster players through. I know my club has yet there people choose to ignore it.

if simply rules cant be upheld then we might as well let everything go to the swanny, where's my hoody

Oh the irony.............

You talk about etiquette yet are willing "to send in a warning shot".

I'm glad you didn't join my club if you're likely to do things like this

I don't really think he does. He's just on the wind up. Slow play is annoying at worst & we've all been guilty of frustration but unless you are a rear admiral firing in a warning shot in nonsense.

have you got one of these

Just realised I dont even own a hoody, would a berghaus suffice

has it got a hood ?

I've got a solution to slow play ! We have to out the culprits !!

We should have a rogues gallery, like the tabloids do with benefit cheats.

Next time you play, take a camera, Get a photo of any slow groups, post it on here, and we can shame then into speeding up :D

Nooooooooo
Next, you'll be taking videos of people not raking bunkers, littering and not repairing pitc.........
Where's my camera

Anyone ever tried walking up to the slow group and asking to play through ? If they are that slow surely you could catch them on the next tee.

We did it at Southport and Ainsdale one year. Caught the tail end Charley who then shouted to his mates, who all started walking back towards us. Thought it was going to turn nasty, but when we pointed out there were four fourballs on the same hole waiting for them, the begrudgingly let us through. This was on about the 6th, We finished the round, changed, few beers, and left over an hour later as they were coming down the 18th. They hadn't let any of the following fourballs through.

This will only sometimes work depending on the culprits and other than complaining to the club nothing can be done with repeat offenders. I've found that my course has some areas where you can cut through to the next hole without interfere with such a group playing out the hole. I usually get the tee shot away and walk off before they hole out.

No it wouldn't work in a comp but and yes it means sometimes missing a hole but I'd rather do that than take an eternity to finish a round and spend less time in the 19th

To be fair, we got round in less than 3 1/2 hours - not good for a 2-ball but not bad for a 4-ball.
They weren't playing slow - thery're just a pain in the rectum!
