Captain v Ladies' Captain competition today, paired matchplay, 3/4s of best in group.

I'm paired with a 12 year old who's off 12, so I get eight shots (I'm off 23) with the other team comprised of two 16 handicaps who both get three shots.

Open up with a bogey on our SI 1, first hole, and then go seven pars in a row before a bogey at the ninth has me turning +2 gross and 28 points. My partner and I were six up after nine.

Capitulated a bit here, only coming back in 18 points, but we closed out the match 5 & 3 when I had a short putt conceded for a birdie on a par five after I nearly stole the Long Drive competition only to roll a yard short.

46 points, 13 over gross for a nett 10 under par. There's talk about a general play cut but that'd be very much against the spirit of the rules to do after one full 18 hole competition so far this season from what I've heard.

Not that I'd be disappointed to be cut!

I also played 15 holes with Bozza off here on Thursday before light beat us at his course and was 14 under handicap through 15.

I'm really seeing the benefits of playing through winter and hitting the ground running, just hoping it isn't a flukey period!

Thats impressive going! No such thing as a flukey period, merely seeing your true potential. Agree about playing through the winter too. So glad I kept it going!

You might get a cut being so much under your handicap, if it was a full course off proper tees. I'm not expert regarding general play cuts but I believe there is an 'exceptional circumstance' clause that the handicap sectretary can invoke. I'm sure someone can confirm / correct me...

Good scoring. I find it tends to come in patches and so one good round feeds another and it can go on for a few weeks. The trick is to try and pick the moment and make sure it coincides with a decent competition. Not going to be a problem for me at Woburn. That forst good round is still alluding me
