Hi,
I am 15 years old. I have been playing golf for around 10 months. I started off shooting 127's. I was given a handicap of 27 in november. I can now shoot under 100. Around 99-98 usually. Weirdly i shot a 44 over 9 holes a few days ago. Today i shot a 55. I can't seem to get any better!!!! My iron shots are 100% better than they used to be. I reallly cannot see what is going wrong. Ok.... i had a cold putter today but i am getting annoyed that i am not getting much better. My swing is now good but there must be something wrong. I am one of the most inconsistent people ever. At the driving range yesterday i was hitting the ball so sweet. It did transfer to today but still only managed 55!
What is going wrong? anybody else like me. Obviously basically everybody on here is bound to be alot better than me but anybody else struggle to get better or is really inconsistent??
Any advice is welcommed.
Thanks
Jordan

Hello,

I wouldnt worry about being inconsistent if you've only been playing for 10 months. I've been playing for 16 years and I'm one of the most inconsistent golfers you could ever wish to meet. I'm sure you'll find that golf goes like that, you play out of your skin one day and cant hit the ball the next. Just stick in and enjoy it.

I can tell you that a great range swing is not a gurantee to shoot a good score on the course. I've been working hard on my game over the winter and seen some positive results but I've been out this week and seem to have gon e back to old ways. OK I was hampered slightly by a sore back but I wasn't hitting anything like I did on the range on Saturday

Golf is all about ups and downs. Your just starting your golfing journe and its something you'll come to terms with (or maybe not). You just have to accept what happens on each day will be different. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself to perform and score and let yourself enjoy it more. As you relax you'll find the scores will come. You say you are hitting well so just have fun. If you hit badly go and see your pro

Easy Tiger!

It takes time to get better fella.

Been playing a couple of years and I thought I was getting no better. In fact my handicap went up!
Following a winter of practice I can already see the benefits.

I was told when I started this brilliant game not to expect rapid improvement. It takes time to improve in this game. You're young enough to have lots of time to improve.
Stick with it, with practice you'll see improvements happen.

The best things come to those who wait.

Golf is one of the most frustrating sports, my friend. You can break your handicap in the morning and get 0.1 back in the afternoon.

If you want further proof of how annoying this game can be, watch the Masters this weekend. You'll see guys shoot under par one day and then five over the next and they're at the top of their game. If it can happen to them, you and me have no chance!!

Stick with it - you'll see improvements soon enough.

Try and identify why you are running up big scores - are you missing fairways off the tee, duffing irons, stuck in bunkers, missing easy putts? What's the main problem?
If you've got real weaknesses in one area focus more of your practice time to that. If you can hit great iron shots consistently dont spend your range time hitting irons, practice what you find difficult, not what you find easy.

My swing is now good but there must be something wrong.

:)

Good luck to you. Everyone is inconsistent and that even goes for established players - it's just the better you get the smaller the margin of inconsistency (give or take the odd disaster round!)

How do you know your swing is good? :)

Just echoing the thoughts of these guys... Just try to enjoy your golf, don't force it and don't try to hit the ball as hard as you can.

One great bit of advice I had when starting was this...
Go to the range and try to hit your 6 iron as far and as hard as you physically can. Now if it went 160yards (for example) what you have to do is hit your 5 iron to the same distance as the 6 iron went.
What you find is you play within yourself, probably hitting it 85% of your 'all out' swing. Now do this for most of your shots when you can and you find your ball striking more solid and tempo and technique is a lot better.

Not sure if you do try hitting the ball to hard but I club up all the time and it works a treat for me.

Happy golfing Jordan. :)

. Now do this for most of your shots

what I mean by that is your general iron play where you don't have to do anything too flash like getting the ball really high and have to hit a big lofted iron.
General iron play:- club up and hit 85% (comfortably within yourself but still attacking).

My swing is now good but there must be something wrong.

:)

How do you know your swing is good? :)

I have been told by numerous people. At the driving range with my dad a random german woman told my dad i had a nice swing. She kept smiling at me. It was quite offputting. Also the pro said i have a nice swing. i need a few lessons with him this summer :

Thank you everybody for your advice!
