It should also be reasonably affordable, maybe comparable pricing to the Majors.

USD 750 per day as the lowest price is pure profiteering.
The Masters will often cost $1000 on the second hand market, good luck with the lottery. Are there many people that are willing to pay $350 for a ticket to the US Open or $262 for PGA Championship that aren't willing and able to pay $750 for an event near NYC?

I have no problem with the prices, but think the outcry against the players is a joke given the profit at these events.

Brandel Chamblee and his take drives me crazy, I guess that's his job. Wonder what he gets paid to talk about the Ryder Cup. See reports he makes about a million a year to talk about golf on Golf Channel.

Disappointing but totally expected from the yanks. It's all about money for them. Just think how many caps Patrick Cantlay could buy with $400k. I get the argument that the event generates huge amounts of money but any player that makes the team has already earned a big pile. Use the money to grow the game.

So we really need to "grow the game"? If everybody played golf.....a whole other bunch of issues. I'm old enough to remember the 70's tennis boom....couldn't get on a court. Built more courts....boom went...well, kaboom....too many courts. You really think we should get everybody into golf? Just like everything else....there is a compromise.....

A good thing the Europeans don't like money......

Oh yeah never thought of that. Maybe best nobody takes up the game then in 70 years time the courses will all be empty. Or maybe 'grow the game' might be pump more money into lesser tours or the womens game?

There is no way to know. Or....just do the best with what is there and attract the people that do want to play golf.....like it's been for years and years.

Where in what I said did you decide that I stated that nobody should take up the game? Why would you read that into what I wrote?

Most games (golf included) go through periods of growth and shrinking....it's normal. How do you "build the game"? Free golf?....that would do it. Somehow I doubt that is going to happen. All sports want to grow the game....but can that happen? There are a certain amount of people who "might" be interested in golf.... I'm 67, I'm NOT interested in playing rugby...you can build it all you want....not interested.

Or maybe create a central fund that club pros can apply for grants to buy equipment for junior coaching.
I read somewhere that footballers who play for England get paid extra but give it back help the game

The club where I used to teach gives free coaching to juniors every Saturday morning from 10-11 using borrowed/donated clubs.
Every Saturday for 20+ years
That would help....

Maybe I should ask this question....do people on this site want everybody to play golf? I don't. Is it even possible? I would think small increments of growth are the best that you are going to get. I'm a bit spoiled though.....I don't have to fight to get on my course. If I had to sit at 6pm (just an example) every night to do the fastest finger thing to stand a chance to get on the course in a week or two....I'd stop playing.

Disagree with anyone being paid to play in the Ryder Cup.

However it's become a huge revenue spinner and prices are going through the roof with various entities making a lot of money from it. In an ideal world it should be used to benefit golf causes down the ladder but greed has set in. Once that happens, players were bound to want a cut. It's a great event but has become tainted by greed - especially the ones in the US.

I'm going to the next one in New York and tickets are absolutely ridiculous! We're talking nearly double the cost of a season ticket for my football team just for one day.

Wow......wow what? One comment was concerning nobody taking up the game from 3 Jabber, the other comment is me asking if people want everybody to play golf. I like golf. I don't want everybody to play golf. What's wrong with that?

After re-reading this....your comments makes even less sense. Again.....where did I state that nobody should take up the game of golf? Point it out....please.

You seem to have all the answers. Let's hear your solutions.

This could be interesting.......🍿

No solutions....just keep doing what is happening. Some people will be interested in golf...others not. The total amounts one way or another should be minimal. People keep making comments like they want everybody to play golf.....you are welcome to that opinion and I'm fine with it. My opinion is I don't want everybody to play golf. Can you live with somebody not having the same opinion as yourself?

Do I like the idea of players being paid to play in the RC? No.
I actually think players who do play in a RC probably earn more in sponsorship as a result of it, so they are already gaining out of it.
But this raising it's ugly head doesn't surprise me.

I don't think players should be paid to play in it. Give it 20 or 30 years and it will all be about the money a player can earn by making the team rather than the unique experience. The players benefit in other ways just now. They'll get loads of commercial opportunities from being a RC player, especially on a winning team.
Someone mentioned the volunteers paying to "volunteer" at the RC, are they mad. Imagine how big a hit they would take in prize money every week if volunteers decided they wanted paid for their efforts. For one week out of every 104 do it for the joy and the glory.

Which comments have I made, don't make sense please?

3 Jabber suggested giving some of the huge profits to lesser tours or the women's game
I added some could be used to help juniors
So we both want to see some of the money used to grow the game.
Wanting to grow the game doesn't mean everyone should play golf. That would be absurd, which is why no-one said it.
But if more people played golf, we'd could see less courses closing, which I think would be a good thing.
