Evening all. I was out for a few holes this afternoon. And almost got wiped out by a stray
Tee shot.

I was walking down the fairway of our 6th hole, which runs parallel with the second,
Anyway theres two guys stood on the second tee. First on tee's off ok.

But the second bloke hits a massive slice crosses over to the 6 th fairway and missed me by about
4 feet,

The bloke never shouted fore!
Or any other warning sign.

To make things worse the bloke had to walk right past me he never said sorry or anything.

The two blokes were older blokes I'd say both in there 50's so they must know the rules.

After my round I went in to the pro shop and made sure our pro knew about it. He said he was
Going to pull them up about it when they came off.

more restraint than ive managed to muster in the past, most notably ended with hitting the offending ball about 150 yards OOB into a lake at the third time of dangerous play and no shout.

interested to hear what they ahd to say to your pro "we did call must have been wind agaisnt" i bet

Seems to be an increasing problem! Probaly stemming from the guys we see you the TV every week! There's is no reason not to try and warn other players of an incoming stray ball.

Have to agree the pro game does filter back into the level of golf we play. If club members see the pro not shout (or the caddy) then over time are they going to think its acceptable behaviour.

I always shout fore and hold my club out to one side so people looking back up at me know which way its going..... unless the guy has an umbrella up... then its safe to assume itll pitch on top an he will be alright

Played at Seaford last week in the Seniors Open. Just finished the 7th hole (par 3) and stepped up onto the 8th tee which is about 20 yards behind the 7th green.
Just about to tee off and a ball thuds into the ground about 6 or 7 feet away. No shout of fore. We all looked up and glared at the guys on the previous hole.
Just got ready to tee off again and another bloody ball thuds down almost in the same place as the first.
Still no shout of fore!
Seniors

I think most people do shout but sadly, unless your under 20 yards away you wont hear some of them

I experienced that recently. Pulled a tee shot which was heading towards our 13 green so I bellowed a good old FORE. One of the guys I was playing with retorted that 'that was a bit loud' nor really seeing that the folks on the green 250 yds away, across the wind, were the ones that needed to hear the warning.

I'm always telling our juniors it's better to shout than to wait and see what happens.

There are occasions when you should not shout. If you can see that your ball is going to miss the golfers a shout of fore can sometimes send them diving into the ball path. I always explain that with my apology and golfers generally understand

Seniors? Surely not?!

They always know best.

I always call fore but as I have fairly bad eye sight, it often misses by a lot more than I think it will. In fact it's quite embarrassing at times, as I shout fire to be safe and it ends up 50ft away from them. They must think I'm mad!

out of curiosity what does everyone do when a FORE is yelled in their direction ?! i usually just keep walking and hope for the best............. theres almost 0 chance of looking up and seeing a ball coming towards you to duck lol

Ok he's in the wrong but in a situation like that I've always got me eye on the guy teeing off and I'll always warn the others with a "head's up - Man on the tee".
If you anticipate the ball coming your way then when it does there's generally not a problem.

I generally always shout but have had occasion not to shout as a shout may have had them walk into the ball rather than the ball missing them all be it a bit too close, always apologised if this happens and explained actions though.

I would accept your apology but there are some that, you just wonder? .. As DCB said, it's better to shout than not! :fore:

Dip your head, get your hands up and try to keep your privates safe - other than that, there's not a lot you can do. It's almost as much use as those 'falling rocks' signs you see on the side of the road. It's fun information to have, but practically all you can do is hope that nothing comes down on top of you.

I always raise my hand or club in the direction its going & shout fore..

Smiffy in my old club the 17th green 18th tee was kinda the same.... some times you think its a great shot when its in the air & it just flyes the green , & ended up near the box .. in club/ members comps it was kinda an unofficial thing that alternate tee shots were played to prevent this , the course should have planted trees or erected a fence to protect the the box tho ..
