And the two wildcard picks are...

The choices have been made, so lets get behind the team and hope they can continue the good form shown in previous cups bt the Europeans.

Poulter is a surprise and not someone I'd have picked. Despite everyone saying he is a great player etc I have a feeling that deep down a few of the camp will dislike him for his overblown opinion of himself and the talent he (thinks) has. I'm not sure he is the most popular player in the locker room.

Casey is a safe is unspectacular choice. He has had a solid (ish) year but not set the world alight but unlike Poulter seems a genuine nice guy and I think is pretty well respected and liked. Not sure the US will be quaking in their Footjoys over his inclusion though. I think Clarke would have been a more intimidating prospect.

Interesting to see that 11 of our 12 are ranked in the top 50 in the world! Clarke and Monty aren't (56 & 91). Oliver Wilson is at 51 as of last week so I guess you can't say that any of them don't deserve to be there.

John I understand what you are saying, but put it another way. Liken it to a battle, would you want the seasoned veterans or the FNG's protecting your arse?

good ol' Ewan Murray who's just given his thoughts on sky sports "disgusting" slagged the decision to pick poulter off no end(too right). He thought monty and clarky should have gone. I don't agree with monty going but the rest of his outburst was spot on. as i have already said clarky's won twice this year while cockface and casey have hardly made any top 10's in the last 2 seasons.

Don't get me wrong i'll be cheering on europe but i knew faldo would do this as the bloke has tunnnel vision and is a 5 star cock....probably why he went for poulthard(love that)

I wouldn't have had any problems with Clarkey in the team, brendy. He's a Ryder Cup god in my eyes....but who's to say Poulter's not gonna be better than Sergio? We just don't know until he's given a run out.

So far in Ryder Cup (2004) he has lost a fourball and won a singles. Who was his partner when he lost against Woods and Riley? Mr Darren Clarke. Give the boy a chance.

I aint the biggest fan of the Captain but for a guy of Murrays grand stature to slag off picks is laughable.....this coming from a golfer whos claim to fame is a win in bloody Zambia and on the Tartan bloody Tour!

I found it quite interesting that in the interview with Poulter he said he found out this morning. This would mean that if any of those whose places were not assured this morning had dropped out of the running then they would have not been considered for a wildcard spot (Wilson, Rose and Hansen).

Also interested in the decision not to name another vice captain. Could not be Monty as he has clearly fallen out with Poulter but what about asking Clarke to take on the roll?

Clarkey is still a force to be reckoned with on course, it'd be a bit of a slap on the face for him to be "given" a back bench position when he really has so much more to give.

I'm very confident overall and think "pundits" should be more positive and stop the cheap bitching.
There are member of the euro team that are total class, I can't see some of them rolling over for anyone and will come up with the goods, for sure.
I'd have Sergio on my team and, as I've said, Ian Poulter could potentially be as solid as a rock in pairs golf.
Clarke and Monty would, of course, have been great to have in the team, but strength of character and past performance (in this event) is not the way to go....these TRULY great players can't be expected to find the extra few % just 'cause it's the Ryder cup.........if you take this attitude, then Faldo may as well have picked himself.

I can see why he's picked Casey. Good matchplay record, I don't particularly like Poulter but he is picked and we should get behind them regardless of our opinion.
I still think that Faldo would have liked Poulter to be in Scotland trying to qualify as of right and in doing so dropping Wilson out (don't mind him BTW). He would have picked Clarke then IMO.
I honestly think that Monty was never in the running despite his previous record.

Good for Faldo.
No player can complain - get yourself in the top 10 and you will play -simple as. Wildcards are totally at the discretion of the Captain. Monty has been disrespectful to Faldo in the Seve Trophy and is basically crap now. Clarke has had plenty RC's before.
The Ryder Cup takes endurance to play 3 days in a row under pressure. Both Clarke and Monty are now in their 40's and very overweight and are not in good physical condition to last the 3 days. Faldo was a player who took great pride in being in great physical shape to play and clearly Monty or Darren don't care about that so aren't in the Faldo mould.
Good luck Nick and thank god you didn't pick Monty. If Monty wants to play RC in future he needs to qualify via some decent performances, not on his record from years ago.

Fair play, he made some safe choices. I wonder why Monty didnt even pick up his phone to Faldo?? The quirky remark that he is was watching football or shopping made me think Monty knew he was never going to be in the hunt.

Also, what do we think of only having one vice captain in Olly when he could have had a few more? It's going to be hard with just 2 of them covering the whole course. I wonder if Monty turned a vc spot down?????

So far in Ryder Cup (2004) [Poulter] has lost a fourball and won a singles. Who was his partner when he lost against Woods and Riley? Mr Darren Clarke. Give the boy a chance.

True, but I seem to recall that Clarke played steadily and Poulter was a bag of nerves - although that is perhaps understandable considering that it was his first experience of the Ryder Cup.

clarke has out performed casey and poulter this year

Not according to many people including Nick Faldo.

:p

At least Monty and Clarke seem to have taken it professionally unlike Thomas Bjorn 2 years ago!

I think Shankalot Poulter is a terrible pick and I think may come back to haunt Faldo. If he's standing on 18th fairway needing a solid iron to win his match he'll probably shank one as he's done numerous times when under pressure in important competitions. Casey is a solid enough pick but it should have been Clarke.
How many career victories has Poulter he seems to get far more publicity than his talent deserves.
