Midweek Medal today. After 7 holes I was only 1 over par gross so cruising along quite nicely.
A 3-putt after lipping out with the birdie putt followed by a semi-stymie behind a tree and another 3 putts and I was level handicap (+5) at the turn.
Cue bogey, triple bogey, bogey run to have used up all my shots by the 13th tee. Annoying but I can par in from there so .......

Par, Par, Par, Par - Mmmm things are going ok. Just 2 to go and I know I can par them, maybe even finish birdie, par!

Cue 2 snap-hooks into waist high bundu and a 3rd short right. Another semi-stymie by a tree (no swing), add in 3 putts and the round has gone west thanks to a wonderful 11. Its hard to concentrate on a 15 footer when its for a 10! A bogey at the last just adds the icing to the cake and the handicap goes up once more. :( :( :(

The really annoying thing is that the Driver was actually behaving itself today. I'd just hit a 288 yarder uphill on the 16th to set up a par - then the 2 snap-hooks. AARRGGGHH!!!! Generally, I hit the ball well, the short game was there too.

Oh well - there's always next time.

Fragger played his first ever Medal and continued his membership of the 100 club. CVG hacked it around for a nett 73 after being cut a shot in the week.

We really took that course apart today - not!

Have to say though, The Big Fella Was Not A Happy Bunny.

So CVG had a net 73 which was good, I had a net 75 which wasnt?

Explain that one Matey

It happens. I was playing level to my handicap after 8 holes in the medal on Saturday. Not striking it very well at all but making a score. Stood on the 9th (not a hard par 4) and racked up a snowman (8).

The back nine was a mixture of one good hole to get me on or close to the buffer followed by a horror to put it out of reach. A dropped shot at 15 and a double at 18 made sure I finished comfortably outside on nett 76 (+6). I couldn't get the ball into play off the tee which is key at Ascot. Everything after was just catch up.

2 snap hooks sounds like you may have tightened up a bit and didnt fully commit and release through the shot. Perhaps a little nervous of trouble right ?

Keep things going matey sounds liek you're not far from a good scoring round and nice cut

imurg, i picked up a golden rule from here a few weeks back and wont change it for the world. If your having a good round you know your having a good round, you dont need to look at the card to work out what your shooting or if you have good points in the bag or not.

I was always the same, get to the 9th (add up points and realise it was a strong front 9 with 18-22 points) then start playing for points and not my own game. I have told all of my mates that i play with i do not wish to know my points until my last put on the 18th drops now, i used to mark my own points on the card i was marking too but ive stopped this also.

This lifts all the pressure on the 10th tee and its amazing the look on your mates face as their adding up your points yet you dont want to know them.

Since changing to this ive posted +10, +9, +13 in my last 3 rounds, playing off approximately 16 h/c. the +13 was dreadfull yet im still well below my previous 3 rounds of +16, +17, +16

june medal I made a hash of the first, stayed grumpy and hashed the second, then gave up - still played the other 16, but a well deserved 0.1.

this month, made a worse hash of the first (I honestly didn't think it possible!), doubled the second than barely put a foot too far wrong for the rest. Stableford adjustment put me back into the buffer zone.

moral, if you're going to mahe a hash, do it early; there's still time to recover something so don't give up.

Well, I yomped round in the p1ssing rain, hacking from rough to bunker to puddle to eventually hand in a 94.

Net.

Off of 24 :O

That, my friend, is a poor day at the office.

It wasn't even golf I was playing, it was on a golf course, with golf clubs, but it wasn't golf. Not even close.

However, the rain was so bad that the klaxon sounded just as I was walking off the 18th green and the medal was cancelled. So no handicap rise. Hurrah.

OK call me a numpty, but if you play off 24 and you got round in 94 , that is net 70, which is what your course css will be approx, so nowhere close to a 0.1 increase. not even in the buffer zone

Unless you were playing 9 holes that is :D :D

Actually re reading the post, you didnt actually score 94 net did you?, You DID !!!

OMG

As I've said before, I know exactly what my score is in relation to par wherever I am on the course.Adding up at halfway is just a check so it doesn't take too long at the end!
I always know if I'm + or - gross or if I'm "level 2's" in stableford.
