Hi,

In July I'll be looking at buying some new irons from AG with the help of their fitting.

Although I have a few sets that I want to try out I'm open to suggestions from the staff if the stats show an improvement.

My question is - Do I need to hunt about online for the cheapest price for the three sets I want to try or potentially all irons in order the get them to price match or am I better to see what clubs I like then go search online then back to AG with the website details?

I'm sure this could be answered as a preference thing but wasn't sure if they knew where the cheapest places where but just didnt like to advertise it? Also do they accept any websites (obviously not the dodgey ones) or is there a list they use to compare prices.

Thanks

They do have a list of sites already programmed into their system, so all they do is confirm the current price on the website, I used snaiton golf as my comparison site (they seem to be very good on almost all items). Manager confirmed it was ok too, and all they do is change the price, marking it as matching with snaiton.

There was a fair few names on their comparison list, to be honest I took no notice of the other names as I spotted snaiton straight away and was happy to be matched to that price.

Did you check around before of simply happy with snaiton because its well known good value?

Unless a particular site has a great offer an a single product them I couldn't see much difference between them all. Snaiton is well known, stocks all the products and provides a good price.... And as you say are not a knock off Chinese site :)

I went in having a couple of ideas of what I wanted and had researched those prices beforehand so i had a general idea, but the fitter was happy to check the actual pricing from snaiton and do the price match at the till.

That sounds really good! My biggest worry with going there to try out some clubs was feelin awkward about haggling the price as that's not my kind of thing.

Can't wait to go get fitted however if I'm striking the ball like I was in the range last night then i dont think anyone could help me.

When the r9 driver come out I went into ag and dealt with the manager. They was selling it for £299 and I told him that I had seen it for £270 somewhere else and he said no probably and match the price without even asking where I see it at that price, so I think you could probably even haggle with them.

Good luck

I think you should go for your fitting with an open mind, try the clubs you want but don't dismiss others that are offered, then politely thank them and walk away.

Have a good think about which felt/looked better and then check online prices. Return to the store with your cheapest prices on hand and then ask for your price match.

Just a word of warning about AG fitting if it's done indoors as I had a fitting for some Ping G10 irons some years ago at AG in Chester. They said I was a red dot which is 1* flat yet when I went to Ping, Gainsborough last Sept to be fitted for my new G20 Irons they said I actualy needed blue dot which is 1* upright!

With hindsight I'll never go for an indoor fitting again as they only track the ball flight for the first couple of yards and estimate it there after where as an outdoor fitting tracks the whole ball flight down the range and appears to be a lot more accurate.

By the way getting the lie wrong has nothing to do with traking the ball flight as they tape the sole of the club and see where it's marked after striking the floor plate so not sure how they got it so wrong........

Yeah I'm pretty open minded to be honest just have a few models which I've told will suit my swing.

That was a concern of mine doing it indoors but I presume that as long as they are all being tested in the same conditions then I should still get the right advice.

Maybe your swing changed over those years?? Just a thought.

Can't see how it can go wrong using a lie board it's pretty obvious when it's right and wrong. I would guess (as above) your swing changed during those years. Certainly standing further/closer to the ball will cause some change in the angle .... I wonder if the ping one was wrong, or the AG was wrong ? ;)

I wouldn't trust anything my local AG say about fittings but that isn't to say other sotres will offer a better service than I had. Out of interest, would your local pro or driving range not offer a fitting so you could see the balls in flight especially if your list has a lot of the latest models (G/I20, Raxr, R11/RBZ etc). Go there get an independant fitting and then use see if they will price match the best online deal you can find. If not then go to AG with your specs and get them to match

AG pretty much the best option around here, staff are knowledgeable for sure (moreso than other branches ive been to), the local ranges have very little clubs on offer. the other option is to go to the AG in Northampton which is attached to a range

I do tend to agree, the one thing in favour of the net at the MK AG is that it is approx 30 yards long, so you certainly get to see a bit more than most nets plus they have a trackman which seems relatively accurate

Well seeing as I'm forcing you to attend you have as much of a say in where I go as anyone :)
