Evening All,
I recently went to an iron fitting where they selected 2 makes (ping blueprint S and the cobra king tech). I walked away thinking im going to but one of those sets but unfortunately my money situation changed and now £1000 is out of my price range. Therefore I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a cheaper set that might offer the same sort of performance? Happy for them to be older

Those 2 irons aren't really in the same bracket...although there is a bit of a crossover
King Tec is a players distance whereas BPS is a players cavity...more loft, less distance, more spin....
Cheaper alternatives(ish) to the BPS would be T100, MP243/223, ZX7, P7CB, i230
Alternatives to the King Tec include i525, P790, JPX923F/921F , MP225/HMB, ZX5

Thank you so much for your quick responses. 1-3 years older, same shaft (KBS taper stiff), they said the heavier shaft 120 gave me more distance. Also the pings did spin up quite a lot and they did edge towards the Cobra (maybe because the were an ambassador) but I just loved the look and feel of the Ping’s and not being an expert I thought the pings would stop quicker on the green

What lie dot colour for the pings?

Lots of good direct to consumer clubs available online if you know your specs and prepared to buy blind. Takomo are very good, also Sub70, Caley and Vice. One of those may be what you're after, checkout the reviews on Youtube etc

If you paid for the fitting, they should give you your full specs, regardless of wether you buy with them. Then, easiest would be get used Ping clubs. Their colour coded fitting system is there for a reason. But besides the correct dot colour, you'll also need to know what shaft type and flex. And length + or - . Once you know these things it's best to hit up Golfbidder or Golfclubs4cash and find something similar but a few years older. Ping generally (over simplifying a bit here) has two lines of irons: Most forgiving and Pro level. I would always aim for most forgiving. So pick an older set that matched the category that worked for you at the fitting. You can make some proper savings here. But make sure you budget for new grips too!

For example (not knowing your specs other than 'red dot'): https://www.golfclubs4cash.co.uk/products/ping-blueprint-s-irons-21

One of the problems with that is that not all makes will give the same specs. Although it is a good place to start.

I know my Ping specs are different to other static fit websites that I have used.

Yes, I realise that. But if OP was fit for Ping clubs he should know: Loft and lie angle (colour code), club length, shaft flex and type. I am always amazed when people get fit, and pay for the service and then have no data to show for it. I know why clubfitters do this: it forces you to buy through them, but I don't agree with the practice.

Where I play a fitting costs £40 which you get back as a credit on your proshop account or as £40 if you buy the club(s) recommended.

Last fitting which I tried (for free) the pro was very good at hiding the specific shaft he was recommending which was noted on his laptop but not given to me.

I had a good idea and bought the shafts only second hand and tried them on my the heads I had at the time. Resold them when I realised it made no difference to what I had already.

I really, really wanted Ping Blueprint S, but got put in Mizuno Pro 243s, and don't regret it st all. But these may still be out of your price range.

You could try and find a set of Mizuno 223s, which are good and will look similar at address to Blueprint S.
