Am I the only person who carries only 3 wedges?

Recently put a gap wedge back in after playing for months without it. dropped my 4i as I just don't hit it that well.

I don't have a system with my wedges and work mostly on feel. I know roughly how far full shots will go with them. after that on chips and pitches I try to control the trajectory of the shot and pick a landing spot. If I am on the fairway and greens are receptive I will try to put some spin on the ball and land it closer to the pin.

I have a PW and SW as well as a 52 and a56.

The PW gets used the most from most shots from 80 yds in, SW only gets used in sand and the other are if I need to try and stop the ball quick from inside 50 yds. I dare say I could get rid of the 52 which is used the least, if I need to put another club in.

Just two

Think my PW is about 48 & SW is 56 (but its just a bunker club) I find the PW is fine for any distance under its max by adjusting the face, my swing length or stance/ball position

I only carry three wedges in the Winter, PW, Gap Wedge and Sand Iron, but add an extra hybrid, because getting enough distance is a problem in cold weather. In the Summer I add a 60 degree Lob Wedge and throw out a hybrid.

Here's a pic of all my wedges. I think the PW is 50 deg but couldn't be sure.

I managed to get my h/cap down to 2 using these so I guess I didn't need any more.

4 for me, P/W (47), 52/7, 56/12, 60/5.

More about the bounce for me, I love flopping my 60 degree up and over bunkers or any obstacle when its on a bare lie, couldn't do that or feel as confident using my sand wedge for that shot, likely to knife it.

I don't need any more armour at the top of my bag, in fact that might get simplified more if I get on with a Mini-driver I'm about to try out, so I might as well carry and be happy with a load of wedges :smirk:

4 in my bag which includes the PW, however unless I am going over stuff or chipping from very close I am finding a knocked down 9 iron is much more efficient at getting the ball close to the pin. Especially, on most courses at the moment that are baked dry and hard, most places in the SE are getting very Links like. Could probably trim the bag down in the current conditions.

4 including my pw, it always makes me chuckle when people tell others what they should or shouldn't carry!

I was carrying 4 - The PW from my irons is set at 44 degrees so I also had a 48, 56 & 60.

I only used the 60 for getting out of bunkers but have learned to trust my 56 to do it now so the 60 has been replaced by a 5 wood.

There is no right or wrong answer to this.

Good players can make a couple of wedges work for them. Likewise someone with good short game skills can make multiple wedges work using the range of bounce and grind they may have with less risks.
