Am I the only person who carries only 3 wedges?

I rest my case about the ever decreasing lofts on short and mid irons! Pitching Wedges used to be 50 or 52 degrees. Now they are 44 degrees with all the numbered clubs de-lofted to suit!

Absolutely. I didn't get the GW initially because I had previously just played with SW and PW. I was quite surprised by the gap when I started using the current set.

Grinds! I have to laugh when people tell me their grinds on their wedges (no offense to you 3565) its just your post reminded me of the technobabble many handicap golfers use and insist on having a 'special' grind on their wedges as they fat/thin/clunk their way around the course:rolleyes:

They havent a clue, and I will wager the majority of golfers are the same

With you on this. Grinds my ****.

3 here too, TBH I could happily have 4 or throw the 3 iron back in as I have only 13 clubs.

I don't have any gapping issues at either end so throwing in a lobber can only help me. Just need to actually buy one first...

For the infrequent amount I would use it however it would not be worth it at the moment.

I have large gaps between my wedges, 5* and 4*, it does leave a little blind spot between 95 and 105 yards but I will find a shot to cover that with some practice. I could get my 52 bent to 51/50 to cover it but again why when just some practice should cover it.

3 wedges is ideal in many ways, if you are happy to have big gaps between your lofts and can learn half and 3/4 shots for 8 iron and higher lofted clubs. If not then 4 wedges is the solution, which is not a bad solution if you were not going to go for a green 200 yards away anyway, why stick in a long club that never gets used?

Well...mathematics tells you that any misalignment of a plane around the vertical will affect the perpendicular to that plane to a lesser extent when the angle of the plane is further from the vertical. So at one extreme the perpendicular to a vertical plane will have a lateral misalignment equal to the misalignment around the vertical of the plane itself. The lateral misalignment of the perpendicular to a horizontal plane will be zero - regardless of the misalignment around the vertical of the horizontal plane. This means that if you get the clubhead face at impact wrong, then the misalignment of the perpendicular to the clubface - the ball velocity vector - will matter less for a 60deg wedge than it will for a 3i. So you should get away with more with a wedge - and be able to hit it straight more often.

But it's not direction that's my biggest problem - it's distance. So 56deg wedge - you are staying in my bag except for bunker shots. PW plus 52deg wedge will do me I think.

While you may be right for the majority of golfers, once again you have chosen to use a post from someone who 'has got a clue'! Or at least has obtained his wedges from someone who does!

Thank heaven for that!

No bringing it up again then - ever!

I only carry two, I suspect untill I learn to hit the ball a little better any more would just confuse me. I have room for more as I only carry twelve clubs in my bag anyway.
