Hi all,Im new to the forum and fairly new to the wonderful game Ive been playing about 6 months and Im quite pleased with my progress normally score between92/102 Ive just joined tavistock golf club a great moorland coarse (anybody fancy a round give me a shout)and put three cards in 94/99/102 waitng for my handicap so I can entry some comps ,Can anyone answer my question I have a slice which goes from nice fad to sharp right turn with my driver a (BENNY) .I have some small sticky lead wieghts that can be stuck to the club head, which part of the head do I stick them on to reduce the slice and would the club still be legal in competition .

Baldy, welcome to the forum m8. I think that tape is not going to help ... but a lesson would. All the tape would do is hide a problem but if you could have a lesson then the pro would identify the real issue. I know good players off 2-4 that think because Ernie has tape on his clubs then they should do it. Get a pro's diagnosis then ask him about adding weight.

you will have to put a shed load of lead tape to put a bias on a driver.lead tape is alright for moving centre of gravity up or down on irons though

This is spot on. It's a common misconception that a few bits of tape here and there can dramatically change things. IT WON'T. If I'm hitting a consistent fade/slice with long clubs, I go to the range and practice tweaking my grip a tad stronger on the driver. I've played many a good round holding my irons "neutral" and my woods a few degrees to the right of the centre of the grip.

Thanks for the advice chaps ,very strange I played today wind blowing from left to right but only had very slight fad I just need to workout what Im doing which makes the slice so bad off to see the pro me thinks.

Yea, I believe Jason is right, a pro can teach you to straighten up, even adding lead to a club needs a little profesional knowledge, I wouldnt touch them until you have a session.

I thought it was only illegall if it had a trampoline effect face higher than the current permissions or more than 460cc. Shape and weight shouldnt matter.

Sorry my mistake. I have just been bothered to consult my copy of the decisions on the rules of golf and provided it is added before the round it is an exception to the 'adding foreign material' ruling. Therefore it is perfectly alright.

I still wouldn't recommend it though, I'd definitely see a pro. It is probably just one major flaw that is causing your problem so a pro could most probably fix it within a 30 minute lesson.
