Wow! I'm hardly a devotee, but seems like it really was a random selection and not based on forum loyalty.

You can't have a "only enter if you joined before XYZ or have over XYZ posts" can you?

It shows to me that there is no selection process which is only right. Why shouldn't someone who has just joined the forum 3 weeks ago and has possibly posted more as an average over that period to that of someone who had joined 2 years ago but averages are lower but is more visible, not have an opportunity to enter and win an offer!

I think when looking back at some of the winners of these excellent days, the process and selection is clearly not biased in any way towards long standing or prolific posters, and rightly so.

I suspect the fitters may have a say on it too or GM will have ideas to make a decent feature for the mag. i.e theres not much point in fitting four people all off 10 handicap is there? They would rather have a spread of hcaps i would imagine.

I wasn't saying the process was wrong. Just stating that it must be random. Although, and this isn't personal as I know nobody on here but I think that there should be some sort of grace period or post / Membership length ratio used. Just like you can't buy / sell On here u til criteria is meet. Otherwise what's to stop people simply entering comps on here and not utilising it like a proper forum should be.

Yes I agree, a bit like a Texas Scramble, 1 player from each category. My point was more about forum presence to enter.

I understand that and it may well be looked at if any person had joined the day of the comp, but, if someone joined last month and could be seen to be taking part in various sections, I don't think anyone should be excluded as not everyone has got the time to post daily. However small, its still a contribution.

Morning all

Congratulations to the guys picked and I look forward to meeting you next week. Just to give a bit of insight into my process of selecting people for fittings, there are a number of things I take into account. First of all the brand doing the fittings will be looking for certain things. In this case the guys at Adams wanted a mixture of handicaps and current hybrid and fairway wood combinations. I then look to pick a mixture of people who have been on the forum a long time as well as those who are new. Loyalty deserves recognition but the forum isn't a closed shop so it's good to get new faces involved as well. I then select based on the descriptions people supply of their current game to again find a mixture of issues and things people would like to improve on. This should help make the feature relevant to a wide range of golfers. Hopefully this gives a bit of an insight.

Yes if we get them straight away, not sure if their built their-and-then like TM's were or if they are sent on later.

Good to hear Paul

This just reiterates what Mike has always said about these opportunites, they are equally opened to everyone. Still good to see some regulars get a turn though

(nothing against those who dabble on the forum though).

In my opinion, the only potentially valid factor in determining eligibility should be whether the person subscribes to the magazine or not.

The opportunities arise because of future magazine articles, it's nothing to do with the forum, that's just a method of accessing readers easily and at short notice.

Which would put those who pay cash every month at a disadvantage which is wrong.

Anyway good luck to those selected, I have Adams Irons and if their hybrids are as good (which the will be) you guys will be in for a treat.

It would, and it might encourage them to subscribe which would no doubt be good news for the magazine.
