This year I have focussed on having lots of fun on the golf course and not worrying about handicap and scores so much. That does not mean that I do not want to improve and I still do what I can to get better but golf is definitely much more of a relaxing pastime than it has been in the past.

What I have noticed is that my ability to improve is hindered by a simple fact: I don't have enough time to practice. What little time I do have is devoted to my biggest area of weakness and as that improves other parts of my game inevitably fall into a state of disrepair.

This weekend was the perfect example where all of the swing work I have been putting in was bearing the most delicious fruit only to be soured by my sudden ineptitude with a wedge in hand. Despite my short game costing me on two par 3's (where I missed the green and floundered around it) I still compiled a healthy 23 points on the front nine. Sadly, I got a bit lost on my way back in and limped back with just 11. But rather than bathing in a pool of despondency and discontent I'm actually quite chipper (though I still do not intend to buy one ;) )

Wasn't sure if I'd fully absorb this find it, hit it, find it again mentality, but I have and do you know what...it's bloody brilliant!

It works for me. Generally I have little or no time to practice and get to play once a week most weeks so I just have to rely on whatever game I turn up with. I can see the difference in that my best rounds have always been when I have had the chance to play earlier in the week or when I have played on a Saturday and enter a comp on the Sunday.

Great view tiger, you are similar to me in the amount of time we get to actually play golf, so why make it painful and stressful being on the course doing what for me, is my only hobby!

My temperament this year is so much better, i can be playing absolutely terribly, (I have and I will again!) but it still beats being at work!! my golf has improved this year, i doubt i will ever get to single figures, but i dont really care! yes i want to improve my game and lower my handicap, but not at the detriment of my enjoyment! H4H day, i scored 24 points or something like that, could you have told from my face in the bar??! no way!
