... and don't call me Shirley.

Anyone wishing to claim that AC/DC are not the best band ever: post your reasons. Anyone nominating the Nolan Sisters or Bronski Beat may be asked to leave the forum...

I saw them at the Monsters of Rock, second year and they were so bad we left. Must admit the sound quality at the festival was awful, and they actually sounded better from the car park. Blue Oyster Cult only played for about half an hour, and gave up.

Rainbow the previous year were brilliant, and a much better band. Just look at their make up, not a weak link, and i include Graham Bonnet.

70's and early 80's Rock mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I was there with Fragger!!
We were so far away we couldn't hear a thing. Ask Fragger aout his trainer......

BOC played at the Dunstable Queensway a couple of nights before Donnington as a warm-up. Albert Bouchard (the drummer) was late for the gig so the Drum Tech took over. Albie turns up and gets fired. In the car park after we see him trying to force a fence post into the radiator of the car that broke down, making him late and costing him the gig. He was not a happy bunny.

Really like AC/DC, but Pink Floyd top them, just.

Biffy Clyro? 5 minute wonders. Ditto 30 seconds.

Muse? Yes, all the way up to their last albumn, sounds like a gayer version of Queen. Not good.

I like Feeder, and Stereophonics.

AC/DC takes some beating, but Floyd just shade it. Followed by The Who.

Bloody hell you must both be ancient like me. The year before the sound was brilliant, so i convinced my girlfriend, now wife to come with us, and she has not forgiven me yet.Probably why she married me, so she can keep nagging.

You can tell how bad the festival was, that Slade were the highlight. Hope you didn't get hit by the flying plastic bottles, that were not filled with lemonade. :D

I was also at that concert , sat on my mum's shoulders(I was 11 years old) so I could see the bands.

From what I remember the bands were

Whitesnake
AC/DC
Blue Öyster Cult
Slade
Blackfoot
More

Thought AC/DC and Whitesnake were both great.

Midnight...

Have they not been going for a while and only starting to become mainstream now?

ac/dc pfft this crowd were the bees knees! He even refused to join the stones cos he didnt want to surrender his "artistic" power

Though I do enjoy a bit of AC/DC, I wouldn't put them up there. Musically I find it a bit same'y.

Do like a bit of PF. But through you tube I've rediscovered early (pre '85) live footage of Simple Minds, a band I adored in the early 80's. Even better live than on lp. Especially the Sons & Fascination / Sister Feelings Call / New Gold Dream era. Well it's good enough for Top Gear to keep using SM's music from that era.

Never saw AC/DC.

I did Monsters of Rock 82!!! Oh my god, so long ago.

I was 18, wore patch jeans, leather jacket (I did ride a motorbike at the time) And rocked out to, in appearance order:

Anvil
Hawkwind
Gillan
Uriah Heep
Status Quo

Quo (original line up) were awesome. Played some early stuff which got the crowd bouncing.
Plastic bottles full of bladder contents filled the air during the earlier spots. Lots of mud thrown. Happy Days!
Still got the tee shirt.

Ties in nicely with the "Ask Fragger" above.... As he's not here I'll tell you a story.

Fragger had been cutting the grass at the local cricket ground on a ride-on mower. Somehow he managed to chop the top of one of his fingers off while clearing grass from the cutters. Anyway a week later and we're at Donnington and he's got his arm in a sling to protect said finger. Fragger goes into the crowd to find some mates just as the bottle fight starts. One of the aforementioned bottles of dubious substances lands close to him. Now Fragger being Fragger, he doesn't pick it up and throw it - oh no he has to kick it. Sadly he gets nudged as he's in mid-kick, misses the bottle but his trainer flies off. It was last seen being thrown from one end of the crowd to the other....

An hour later he comes back to find us. Arm in a sling and a plastic bag tied around his foot - it was lashing down. I laughed nearly as much as when he fell in the ditch a couple of weeks ago. Trouble was I had to lend him my trainer so he could drive home....

Funnily enough I was watching some of their stuff on YouTube last night as I had a bit of a Led Zep, Thin Lizzy, Gary Moore night going on to myself. Cracking stuff.

My fave band has to be that "Now that's What I Call Music" lot, though. They seem to be very prolific. I think they've done 77 albums now and they have a very eclectic style. The singer sounds different on nearly every track. Wonder if they'll ever tour.
