I'm sure that it's a simple one but Toshiba laptop has decided that everytime I start it up that it's going to perform a checkdisk operation. I've let it do this a couple of times and everthing is ok but unless I cancel chkdsk in 9 seconds then it can waste 10 minutes

Sounds to me as if you have an imbalance between the plasma field and the Dylithium crystals within the matter/anti matter chamber so you'll have to jettison the warp core or the whole thing will blow.
But then, I'm no expert

Persistent checkdisk runs at boot suggest the hard-drive is starting to fail... if you've anything of value stored, I'd be backing it up pronto before it farts and dies once and for all.

The good news is laptop hdds are pretty cheap, and are generally easy to fit.

As above, unless you are just shutting power off each time instead of letting it turn off itself when shutting down.
SSD hard drives are getting cheaper and cheaper now too (SSD drives have no moving parts and are a lot faster than normal spindle drives). If you do go down the upgrade path then SSD is the way forward. It is now the single biggest upgrade to making your pc run like never before.

Are you trying to teach me to suck eggs Bob, that was the first thing I thought of!

hard drive failures are not good! With SSDs there are no warning signs, thankfully the one of mine that went was for my flight sims and other big world games so it did not cost me anything much, the replacement was free as it was less than a year old too!

Anyhoo at least you seem to be getting a warning its on the way out. Either that or check its still connected properly, not a loose, damaged or bent sata cable causing issues

If the drive is going home, make sure you have a windows disc or System recovery disc (With Toshiba almost certainly the latter)

Because your hard drive has 2 sections, one is the C drive that you play with, another smaller partition contains your original factory restore image, If your hard drive dies, you lose your recovery options too., You can buy another hard drive, but you wont have the ability to load windows onto it.

If you havnt made the recovery discs yet, you will need up to 5 blank DVD-R discs, Do it ASAP as a matter of urgency

Start, Programs, Toshiba, Toshibe Recovery Media Creator

Dont forget to label each disc

I like your style, but surely it should be " Phil D' Fragger"

Also there is a world of difference between fragging ...as in shooting something in a PC game
and DeFragging or defragmentation which is a proceedure to clean up your hard drive

Mornin'n Bob, Got your thermal undies on today? I bet its chilly up north today :D

PhD F is still to meet my challenge of a 1v1 on CS:S... prove who the real fragger of the forum is!

EDIT: I will make it 1.6 if that is the way he rolls...

Good morning.
Not playing today, just teaching on a covered range so shouldn't be too bad

I am happy to not have a clue what you are talking about.:)

The Geek is referring to a FPS (first Person Shooter) game called Counter strike. used to play it, havn't played it for yonks and had no idea he had issued a challenge

As for who is the "Real" Fragger, im sure you will all be pleased to hear that there is only one of me

I suppose you are more a Battlefield of Duty player then?

1.6 is pure FPS, no faff, no fluff, just skill and 1337 PWN@G3
