A nice surprise at the range tonight…. Callaway came to play.

Dropped into the range after work tonight and as I walked in there were 6 or 7 beautiful Callaway tour bags stuffed with golf porn. Everything a Callaway lover could wish for. I did not have an appointment but I managed to catch the guy’s attention and ask all the questions I wanted to, I even managed to get a play with the X24 Hot 7 iron. It felt kind of fat at address and that’s not a good look to me but it did not hit the ball fat at all, a very sweet club to strike, thinking back though the club did not really talk to me. I am not sure they were the best 3 or 4 seven irons I had ever hit and I had not put my spikes on so that may have been it. They are only selling 2000 sets of X24 Hot in Europe.

I took the bay next to the Cally guy and a fellow arrived for his appointment. The Cally guy asked the customer how far he usually hits his 7 iron and the customer told him about 170 yards (I can hear Homer groaning from here). The Customer hit 5 or 6 shots with his own 7 iron and the Cally guy told him he was landing the ball at the 145 mark pretty consistently at a height of about 90 feet( I think it was feet) and about 92 mph swing speed. He then tried the Diablo’s and started playing with shaft flex and stuff; I tuned out and started working on my program. When I tuned back, the guy was hitting the X24s(X24s are only off the peg clubs and don’t come with a 3 iron). The customer was landing the X24 7 iron on the 160 mark with the same swing speed give or take and the exact same height. You could see the customer tying to work out if that was even possible as it would take the same ball path if it was the same swing speed and ball height. I can only guess the ball speed off the face comes into play here? The guy bought the clubs.

Anyways, I found it all very interesting stuff.

As for my program I was working on getting my weight onto my right side at impact and keeping my left arm straight, the former took care of the over swing I was told about and I hit the ball SWEET all evening. Huge thanks to all who helped me with that.

It's always fun to try new gear and I love any demo day just to see how different clubs feel and react. The Cally, TM, Ping and Mizzy's are usually crammed full of different spec irons to try and for the most part the guys will try and be as helpful as they can between appointments

Are you sure about getting your weight onto ypur right hand side through impact? Assuming you are a right hander, you should be transferring your weight to your left side to avoid a reverse pivot?

Ye Doh... well spotted, I guess I was thinking moving my weigh from my right to my left. So ye, working on moving my weight onto my left hand side at impact.

How is AVDC these days - was a member for many years (even before the cluhouse was finished). Moved away from the area but still have fond memories of the people and course. Was even lucky enough to win the club champs!

I am new there, I joined at the start of summer but have had nothing but good times so far. Its cheep, they keep the greens well and the paths and bridges are pretty. The course is a good challange for me and allot harder than many I have played so for right now it ticks all my boxes,I love it and live there pretty much.

Range balls or proper balls?

at a height of about 90 feet( I think it was feet)

I doubt it was metres to be honest...

Qulity range balls, its a range only facility in an affluent town so pretty smart.

I cannot think of anything worse than getting to the range and the being a Callaway Demo day on, loads of noise loads of people and loads of rubbish clubs.

I would hae left and gone to the course

It was not like that really. I also could have gone to the far end of the range and not even known they were there if needed. I am so interested in golf tech that I would not have missed it.

I got through my program, I don’t have problem when in my pre shot routine with noise as I am focused on all the right things (I hope).
