From yesterday.

I don't understand how handicap has been calculated...

9 hole general play card.
18 hole course, card submitted on front nine.

Course Rating: 36.2
Slope: 128

WHS Index: 6.0 Course Hdcp: 5

I had 5 pars and four bogeys.

Score Diff: 6.7

You have been given a "dummy 9-holes" of 5 over on the same nine holes to add on to your 9-hole score.

For twice round the same nine you have a CH of 9. You were given 5 on your played nine so you are given 4 on the dummy nine. The "dummy nine holes" is 9 net pars +1 shot.

So the combined 18 hole score is 9 over par and the differential is

(80 - (2 x 36.2)) x (113/128) = 6.7

EDIT: Oops something wrong there. Nine over should be 79. Was there a PCC?

Score Differential

(113/128) x adjusted gross score - 9 hole course rating doubled.

0.883 * ((39*2)+1) - (36.2 * 2)

0.883 * (79 - 72.4)

0.883 * 6.6

5.8 but EG saying 6.7!

No pcc

(6/2 x (128/113)) + (36.2 - 35)

(3 x 1.33) + 1.2

4 + 1.2

5.2

5

Thanks
128/113 = 1.13 not 1.33.

But 3.39 + 1.2 = 4.59

So rounded to 5 for nine hole CH, the same. And 18-hole CH should still be 9 (2 x 4.59)

If you've been given 5 for your played 9-holes, you should be given 4 CH for your dummy 9.
9 net pars +1 should therefore be 40 shots giving you a 79 total.

(79 - 72.4) x (113/128) = 5.8 as you say.

I hope someone with access to the scores will be along soon to help.

It is all getting rather confusing

Course Rating: 36.2
Slope: 128

Are they the figures for the 9 holes you played? If not what are they?
What is the par for those 9?
What was your gross score for the holes played?
Please confirm your Index of 6.0

So your CH is:

(3.0) x ((128/113) + (36.2 - 35)
3 + 1 + 1.2
5

Your Differential is:

(113/128) x (39 + 36 - 72.4)
0.9 x 2.6
2.3

Where have I gone wrong ?????

39 + 36 ?

39 was my actual gross for the front nine
The back nine should be nett pars + 1 shot.
Handicap of 5 + 1 shot = 6.

Par is 35, so 6 + 35 = 41.

So.

113/128 x (39 + 41 - 72.4)

= 6.7

Cracked it!

I still think there is something wrong. 18-hole score should be 79.

9-hole CH is (6.0/2) x (128/113) + (36.2 - 35) = 4.6
This rounded to 5 for the 9-holes played.

18-hole CH for twice round the same 9 is 2 x 4.6 = 9.2
This is rounded to 9.

As you've been given CH=5 for the nine holes played, you should be given CH=4 for the dummy nine.
Then 9 nett pars plus one shot should be 40.

Total score should be 79.

(79 - 72.4) x (113/128) = 5.8

18 based on 9.jpg

The OP's 18-hole handicap based on the same 9-holes is 9.2
This is rounded to 9.

His 9-hole handicap for the 9 holes played is 5. (Rounded from 4.6)
The handicap for the "scaling up" nine holes is therefore 4.

He cannot be given an 18-hole handicap of 10 in these circumstances. No such calculation exists to produce that result.

It is worth noting that the player has played 9-holes in 2.8 shots over the Course Rating (SR = 128)
5.8 would appear to be a reasonable differential to be given for this score.

But I was given a score differential of 6.7 !

I believe 6.7 is wrong and your differential should be 5.8.

18CH on 9H.jpg

Your CH for the 9 holes played is 5.
Your CH for 18 holes based on the same 9 holes is 9.

The above extract shows that your "9 net pars plus one shot" for the "scaling up" is based on your 18 holes CH of 9.

You've been given 5 shots on your played 9, therefore on the "scaling up" 9 holes you should be given 4 shots.
9 net pars plus one shot should therefore be 40.
40 plus your 39 for the holes played gives 79 adjusted gross score and a differential of 5.8.

This is what I believe to be the correct calculation by my reading of the Rules Of Handicapping.
How you've been given 6.7 I can not say other than it appears to me to be incorrect.
