Has he helped you enough to get to single figures as I'd imagine that would be your next logical goal?

Genuinely curious. There was an old guy at Fereneze who was not a pro but was known as Dr Golf. He could spot a flaw in anyone's swing after just a couple of swings, great talent for it and good understanding of the golf swing.
Don't do targets pal. I've gone from 9.7 to 9.9 and down to 9.5. So on the cusp.

I just play for the Craic, but I understand my swing more after seeing James. He also dispelled some of the myths I had been taught previously re hip movement.

I've seen some good pros, some bad. They have tended to give me sticking plaster fixes. James isn't into that.

Could I do 5 hrs down the range every week...no

But I value his input.

Very interested to know what James can do differently to a qualified PGA professional. Don't really understand the sticking plaster fix gag either as I've never seen a professional who has told me to"do this or that" to get the ball round. I've had a couple of lessons where I've been given specific drills to work on which have helped me.

I have had one "poor" lesson in my life where the pro told me to change my grip and go away and hit 1000 balls till it became natural. That was his way of teaching I guess where the whole process of the golf swing stems from the "correct" grip. I still don't subscribe to that being a "sticking plaster fix" just a different route, method, understanding, attitude, all of them way of teaching.

A student gets out of a lesson what he/she puts into it both during and after.

I'm also of the opinion that there are no myths of the swing. Every swing is different and unique. You must make your swing work to the best of your ability. I don't subscribe to the "correct" way as there is no "correct" way. Work within yourself and play golf.

So you and JO actually agree then.

Re sticking plaster. We are talking about fixes that treat a swing symptom rather than a root cure. You could argue that 12 hrs down the range isn't going to provide this, as its information overload, but the principle is correct. You have to understand your swing before you can fix any issue.

I'm not fussed about exchanging long posts as I'm not that interested. You asked if James had help anyone lower than 20. We showed you he has

Interesting read.

I'm in the camp that I'd rather spend a lot of time in the one sitting to get something sorted rather than getting shown it in half an hour and left to my own devices to master it. So for me I'd rather spend a day at a range than have half hour lessons every week.

Just my opinion and what would work better for me.

Where has he helped you your still a double digit golfer who also mention hip myths or something.

I also never said I did or didn't agree with JO. I did say it certainly wouldn't be me taking his advice, however I subscribe to a totally different approach.

Yep still a double digit golfer, rather that than a pompous knob:thup:

Tell us a bit about yourself, where do you play and off what handicap?

Justone has already told you who I am and I play off half of you and less than the uber teacher! I'm also a member of one of the best links courses in Britain.

Cheers guys. Wish you all the best. I don't doubt his knowledge of a golf swing and admire his dedication and willingness to help. Just question the motives behind posting it all on here especially when he claims its not about him.

Stand free.

Depends what you mean by 'understand your swing'.

I don't believe understand ids the correct word. If it is, I disagree. I'm happy to be told 'swing a bit flatter' of 'swing a bit more upright' - provided I can be convinced that that will improve my swing.

I very much agree with the 'root cause' bit though. That's why I believe the 2-minute fix with the 2 balls is 100% great and the head-cover drill is only 95% (or 98 or whatever). And it's another example where I didn't need to know what I as doing wrong (understand my swing). The drill fixed everything that needed to be fixed! And there were at least 4 different things that all needed fixing!

@JO Thanks for the acknowledgement. It was in the dodgy hours. I'm thick-skinned enough to debate, Worth using a Secondary School as an example though. There's about 5 hours of teaching done in any day, so quite possible to absorb lots of new info and learn. But maybe not about the same specific area and with frequent breaks. Remember how grueling double-periods were!

I reckon it rhymes with 'raw' and is equally angry!

LOL, I didn't realise... I even PM'd him the other day about his opinions and welcomed him to the forum

I only twigged when I saw your reply to

But someone has picked up on it now and blackballed him. And NO it wasn't me.

Plenty of people seem to have been partaking of the brave juice this weekend!! Like clockwork, as soon as the weather changes, the warrior posturing starts.

FWIW James, surely the only opinions that are worthwhile are those of the teacher and the student. I genuinely hope that Gibbo and Virtuocity make big improvements over the Winter using the help you've given them.
