8hrs at the range with Virtuocity

I genuinely hope that Gibbo and Virtuocity make big improvements over the Winter using the help you've given them.

Thanks Bluewolf,.... it's a shame that they were hounded out of their own threads because of the length of time they were at the range and can't even talk about their experience openly here.

At the risk of being unpopular and getting this vaguely back on track, ha Virtuocity hit any balls or played since your lesson and what was the result? Surely if JO's methods had a positive result its a means to an end and everyone involved is happy. JO for passing on his advice and seeing it work and Virtuocity for playing better and shooting lower or is that just too simple

Even if gains were marginal, but they both had a few laughs, a really enjoyable day & a new friendship was formed, doesn't that make it worthwhile?
It would for me.

Slime.

Exactly. I don't see what the issues with this thread is. I think if someone asks for JO's help and he gives it, irrespective of whether the teacher is a pro or not is irrelevant. I've had help from plus handicappers who wouldn't know a PGA exam if they fell over it but can get a point over in a way that can be understood.

I've learnt (to retain interest) to always carry more pies!!!

Virtuocity said that his ball striking was like chalk and cheese.... so I guess he had food on his mind too!!

If your ever near coventry I could do with some help :-) golf....not food

Just found out that I won my last comp which means I qualify for next week's end of year trophy. Played utter rubbish as well (scored 5 doubles in a row after getting overexcited about a bogey, par, par start and 3 putted 6 times during the round).

Still- a wee cut is always nice!

I finally 'get' the golf swing and more confident than ever of getting down to mid teens by this time next year.

Edited to add: when I said I played utter rubbish I meant that I under-achieved despite scoring a medal PB

sounds really good, putting is easily practiced on the carpet with a 1p piece ... Then you'll hole loads and I won't be surprised if your knocking on the door of the singles. Medals are a mind set, you'll find yours by playing loads, its like exams it's just practice breeds confidence.

Good news, one less shot to give you at Carnoustie.;)

Putting and medal nerves are a big issue for me and you've just given me enter advice than what you might have thought!

id be interested in seeing before and after lesson swings.

Me too! :(

Personal best in a medal and you had 6 3-putts... plenty of scope for improvement then! Everyone should EXPECT to 3-putt at least once, right down to about a 5 h/cap. Once you 3-putt you shouldn't just IMPLODE!! playing more medals is certainly easier on the nerves, playing one hole at a time regardless of what score you are on is another challenge

Well played Dave

very true. I know a few folks who beat themselves up a bit over three putts. just have to accept that they sometimes happen. especially if the first putt is miles away from the hole.

3 putts from inside 15 foot are something to be avoided though. if they happen then more practice is needed.

the worst is when you get aggressive on a makeable birdie putt that just slips by, then you miss the return putt. double wammy! :o

Great work on the scoring Virtuocity.

Everyone should EXPECT to 3-putt at least once, right down to about a 5 h/cap.

This part I cant ignore. If you go out with that mindset "Expecting" to 3 putt at least once you are focussing on the wrong thing entirely. Hope this tip is not part of your free lesson package.

You should be going out "Expecting" not to 3 putt.

Remember the saying "be careful what you wish for". Every single putt is makeable.

Walter Hagen is so true particularly important for us HC people to acknowledge. One caveat I'd make tho is that sentiment can be applied thru the green. On putting surface given the controlled environment we should be striving for no 3 putts as that is one place where you should be able to exercise much greater influence than booming drives, carrying 200 yd of hazard etc.[/FONT]
