How do you know that you practised "the right things"? By your own admission your not qualified to teach.

Maybe a few mental tips would have just as big an effect as there is no "correct" way to play golf its all about getting the club back square(ish) and getting the ball in the hole at the end of the day.

Keep up the good work but I suggest you keep it to email.

Appreciate your comments,..... if it has to be done by email what is the point of having a forum? I want Virtuocity to feel PROUD, I want him to look at that picture and think "Look at me! that's me in that pic everyone" without having to post it himself stroking his own ego.... so I 'stroked it for him' (ooooooer!!).

Not sure about the qualified part, of course I don't know how to fix clubs (or even re-grip them) I don't know how to fit someone for a set of clubs, I don't know much about shaft flex, swing weights, how to order golf stock from a sales rep, organise a monthly medal or even how to sell confectionary, and I'm not about to learn those things (at minimal wage) just so that I can be 'qualified' to teach. If the PGA want to set up a system so that people who know (or want to know) about the swing so that they can become qualified instructors then I'd be one of the first people in the queue, it's not my fault that a system doesn't exist to train instructors rather than 'golf shop' pros, I don't want to learn those other things, I'd liken it to not wanting to learn to run an entire leisure centre just because I want to teach kids to learn to swim.

If you belong to a club go ask your pro how much he actually knew about the golf swing and teaching when he passed his PGA qualification, you might be surprised.

@Foxy.... appreciate your post, I think I had a moment

@Crawford.... I see you. Thanks for your 'admirable' comment, appreciated.

@ Everyone else.... thanks for your comments (and PM's), much appreciated.

This is Virtuocity's thread, please pose your questions to him if you're interested in it how his day went, what he took from it, what his plans are etc etc.. I'm sure he'd be delighted to talk about it all

I think, may be wrong, that you can become a qualified golf coach/instructor without going the whole pro hog?

At my place they have a golf academy with 2 pros and a "coach" who I'm sure must be qualified in some way as his day job is coaching golf at a local college. Might be worth looking into JUstOne, if you want me to find anything out let me know.

I applaud both sides, I couldn't be coached, or coach for a full day. Used to do a fair bit of football coaching and that would do my nut in for that length of time. Very generous giving up you're time aswell unless you were getting some "favours" in the car park..... :eek:oo:

I've said this before JustOne, you are obviously very enthusiastic which is great, taking digs at PGA pros who have actually gone through all the effort of getting a qualification (whatever you're opinion of it) and trying to belittle them is totally unnecessary in my view. You may be a little less divisive if you don't take pops at others, doesn't come across well.

I think anyone can become a golf coach, the PGA is an Association that self regulates and awards membership to those who pass their exams. It's qualifications are recognised by the World golfing authorities.

If you decide to be a coach then you can infact teach and recieve payment for your work but you then loose your Amature status and cannot hold an official handicap or play in amature competitions.

Yep he helped me. I'm off 10.

Has he helped you enough to get to single figures as I'd imagine that would be your next logical goal?

Genuinely curious. There was an old guy at Fereneze who was not a pro but was known as Dr Golf. He could spot a flaw in anyone's swing after just a couple of swings, great talent for it and good understanding of the golf swing.

As usual on here, someone does something a little different and a few on here don't like it. I applaud JO and anyone who is prepared to give up their time to help someone and actually make a difference. Who is anyone else to decide whether she should or shouldn't be doing it and as long as the pupil feels they have taken something away then surely JO's time hasn't been wasted. Form in golf is transient at best and so if the pupil can go out and feel they can play better, then chances are even for a round or two they will see better scores

Did you know that 'I am Spartacus' is an anagram of 'I am a cynical old bugger'............................................................... give or take a few letters.
For goodness' sake mate, get a life.

Slime.

^^^^ what he said!!!!!!!
Others on the forum have regular lessons with Pro's yet their handicap doesn't come down. Thoughts???

I help people every day.

Its not about playing better for a round or two according to James, he claims that if you want to do that go and see a PGA pro who will only give you a quick fix.

I asked a genuine question. Some people do have a genuine understanding of the swing I don't deny that and I have already mentioned someone else from my past that knew the mechanics of the swing and could spot a flaw within two swings.

They need to practice what they are taught more.

I totally agree. I can spend hours on a range with someone but if they choose not to practice it or even to just do their own thing afterwards then so be it - it's their life after all and their golf game is entirely up to them. I don't count it as a measure of my ability.. if Gibbo shoots 150 around Woburn or Virtuocity shoots 140 around Karsten Lakes then so be it. We had ONE DAY, it's not like either of them is going to pop down for 30 minutes to see me for a quick check up, I'm 70 miles from Gibbo and 400 miles from Virtuocity.

If you practiced what you were taught you wouldn't have been in the forest
