7 iron how far do you hit it?

Trackman gapping session had me at 170 yards average carry and my shotscope P-Average is 171 yards so pretty much the same, my 7 iron has 34 degrees of loft. Our greens are generally pretty soft so the ball doesn't run out much and I did hit it very high prior to my swing changes this year. I'll be having a other gapping session once I'm more comfortable with my swing as the yardages will change especially in my shorter irons

I have no idea

Never used a machine to measure and the range and playing conditions are nowhere near consistent enough to form a stat

I'll use it anywhere between 100-160 depending on the shot

Sim Max 7-iron is 37.25 ins and 28.5d loft.

My Ping i10 6-iron is 37.25 ins and 30.5d loft.

I think I would be right to think that I would hit that 7-iron further than my 6-iron. But I'm not interested in that issue either way.

I think the point of the original post should specify the shaft length and loft - not the numbering.

My 7 iron is 30 degrees. I think of that as pretty strong but there are plenty of even stronger ones out there. I just think it's getting silly now and not sure how far it can go. I already don't carry the 5 & 6 as I couldn't hit them well with their low lofts. In 15 years will I only be carrying 8 to PW and have 5 additional wedges??

On the links I've hit it at a 135 yard par 3 and also at a 208 yard par 3, it shows 163 on Shotscope but that's just based on one round so far so will go with that

@Brechin balata

Was there any reason you asked about the 7?

I only ask because for me it's the least used iron in the bag.
Lucky if it's used twice a round, and only then if a par 3 tee box is set to suit or it would be just once for a 2nd shot to lay up on a par 4

I'm a bit like that at my course - a lot of holes seem to be either driver, wedge or driver, wood/hybrid, wedge. Suits me as I don't like hitting irons. ?

Not all 7 irons are the same. My 2009 Titleist AP2 is 35* loft with R400 Dynamic Gold shaft and I hit it 140 yards. The current equivalent Titleist T200 has 31* loft which is the equivalent of my 6 iron. Most manufacturers seem to be decreasing the loft of their irons in an attempt to sell them as distance improving irons.
What’s your thought on the loft being on the bottom of the club instead of an iron number??

I think this is a really good idea. ?

I would go as far as saying that the way irons are sold should change too, because so many of us now are looking towards changing 4i, and even 5i/6i, out for hybrids whilst needing to buy a gap wedge.

I think the make up of sets should change to reflect the stronger lofts, or irons should be sold singly so we can make our own combo sets easily.
