This is my failing. I can judge long putts ok, not get them in, but close 60cm, close. Then miss the little putts. Time and time again. Any suggestions, barring make sure I'm closer to the hole for my second putt (I'm wise to clever responses🤪)

Try looking at the target? (a la Jordan Speith)

Have you tried using the line on the ball to line them up? Helps me, I'm hopeless at aim without the line when putting.

Think of them as 2 feet. Sounds nearer than 60 something.

A chap your age shouldn't be thinking in metric anyway!🤣🤣🤣
How old did I look???? I was taught in metric, although like most heard everyone quote inches, so used to use that. It's a hard habit to break. But I'm trying. Hell, even today's kids still say inches.

An old guy (ex pro) that I had a lesson with and was practical. He told me to place a dot on the ball. Focus on that to keep head still and follow through.

I remember Colin Montgomery saying he would practice by holing 100 putts in a row from that sort of range. Miss one and the count would start from the beginning.

Ive never had a putting lesson, but what I do see is many players take the same back swing with a putter regardless of distance they want to hit the ball and decelerate into the ball, which often means they lose their aim/direction.

Keep the flag in, short backswing, accelerate into the ball, firm and straight, aim to give the flagstick a good thunk.
Works for me...

Marl a line on the ball - line it up - I might use the putter shaft to check it's aimed correctly. Then just align the putter with the line on the ball, and confidently hit it - straight at the back of the hole.

I’ve recently adopted the claw grip for putts inside 3ft (1m). Find it easier to control the line.

Might sound like an obvious question, but do you watch the first putt roll past the hole? Always find this helps give a perfect line and pace.

Other than that, it’s a confidence thing. We’ve all been over 2 foot putts, thought way too hard about it and missed. That can easily get in your head over a period of time. Maybe try being nonchalant about them and just tap them in? Can’t be worse…

Have you tried the pencil grip? I find it stays on line better, it's just difficult to control pace (which is less of a problem at that distance).

I take the flag out all the time now, have hit the flag stick dead centre and the ball came straight back.

Do you have any eyesight issues?
Indeed…

I was good at missing this sort of length…then my pro checked me for strong left or right eye dominance. We discovered I have strong right eye dominance and I have to take that into account in all shorter putts else I have a (subconscious) tendency to push, and miss, them.
