Well done Del, you have ten years on me, I no longer enjoy 36 holes so actively avoid playing them. Did you get any pleasure from round 2 ?

Thank goodness it's 65 cos I'm just shy of 64!
I played Sunday and Monday this week and was really struggling on the last couple of holes yesterday. I've got a 36 hole to look forward to in the Gainsborough meet in August - that might be the last time I attempt it!

We did the longest day for Macmillan Cancer last week...4 rounds in a day! we started at 4.30am and finished at 9pm! Absolutley broke me!! I scored 97, 115, break for lunch, 103, 111! fatigue is a big issue!

Fair play for having a go at it but how come there are handicap prizes in a scratch championship?
Don't you think entering scratch 36 holers playing of 13 is a bit ambitious?
A lot of scratch tournaments are 36 holes and I personally don't really see why?

Killer isn't it! We did on the 18th June, I shot 83, 84, 79, 82!
Weirdly enough most people I spoke to said the 3rd is the toughest after your lunch but I felt bouncing! Must've been the food and pint I had!!!

Ive got one coming up Tain 36 holes Open, over a 6 round trip think i'll be a tired lad after that

Yeah my feet are still recovering now!! 4th was the hardest!! Without a doubt! Not in any rush to do it again! We raised over £1100 though.

88 and 85 of 3 and 6 the one of 3 said he'd never putted on greens that quick and he's played all over, no mention of lost baws yet haha
yep been up to 12+ on the stimp this year, plus the rough is brutal at the moment, will be staying that way until as the Home Internationals are there beginning of Aug, so want the course really tough for that.

It was why my club changed the way they do club champs to 18 holes on Saturday and the top 60 and ties then get to play in reverse score order on the Sunday. We were getting smaller and smaller fields for one of the biggest events in the diary as the older members struggled to get round twice in one day and so didn't enter. Works much better now.
I can do it. I struggle with my hernias, dodgy knees etc. The Macmillan Cancer day was a real struggle but worth it and I'll do it again

I've done a few 36 hole comps the last couple of years. I can cope with 2 rounds of golf as I'm a whippersnapper, but I got fed up of leaving the house at stupid o'clock and not getting back until late.
Ive entered the one at SAOL later this year but it might be the only one I play.

Regarding the question raised of high handicappers entering a scratch competition and likelihood of winning, I assume that Delc's competition was the Club Championship.
I enter our 36 hole Club Championship every year if I can, even though I know I've got very little chance of coming in the top 5 let alone winning it. For me there's a real buzz about the day that you don't get in any other club competition.
And it's the Club Championship after all, the flagship event, it should be supported by as many members who are eligible as possible whatever their handicap.
Unfortunately entry numbers in ours have been on a steady decline for some years and in an effort to increase entrants the previous handicap limit has been dropped and a net prize introduced in order to keep the competition viable, which should be a warning to those low handicappers who bemoan the fact that most club competitions are handicapped and not scratch.
