2 under handicap today in atrocious conditions....strong winds and rain.
Could have and should have been so much better, as 2 double bogies on the back nine cost me dearly.
Struck the ball really well and apart from the silly mistakes, happy with the nett 69. Later heard that a nett 65 came in from a 23 handicapper....6 under in those conditions was erm......interesting!!

Still, can only influence my own game and it's been a long time since a handicap cut.......game seems to have turned a corner....:)

Hi 'rickg',

Well done.

I'm interested in 'why' (right and wrong) - what do you think you did right and with your "2 double bogies on the back nine" what was different about your play and/or your thinking on those holes?

Interesting question....firstly what I think I did right was acknowledge the conditions and accept that playing my normal game was just going to get a 0.1 back.

So right from the off, I played a lot more punch shots and half swings with more club to control the ball flight more. This worked really well and I was much more accurate than my my playing partners off the tee....funnily enough, I was mostly longer as well as they were trying to swing out of their socks because of the wind.

The 2 double bogies were holes into the wind, one a long par 4 where I came up short with my second and then left my chip short when I tensed up a bit. A long putt from just off the green left me a makable bogey putt, but I lipped it for the double. It was even more annoying as i had just birdied the stroke index 2 hole missing the eagle by millimeters!!

The second was a short par 3 (150 yds) where the tee is sheltered by trees and I hadn't noticed the wind had dropped. I went through the back and found a horrible lie in the rough and just managed to get it to the edge of the green. The chip on was good though and I went to finish instead of marking it and somehow missed then tap in!!!

Went on to par the last in a state of shock, ruing the fact that I should have probably had a 2 over gross back 9 at worst and an extra 0.4 off the handicap......

Pleased with how I handled my game in the conditions but annoyed at the silly errors.

Good skils Rich. What was CSS ? Hopefully you will knock a few more .1's off !!
Won't find out until tomorrow when the scores are posted on HDID. Keeping fingers crossed for it to go up by 1 ....the nett 65 was by a cat 4 golfer so his round won't affect CSS.

Well played. Sometimes you have to take the silly mistakes on the chin and enjoy the fact that you tamed the conditions and struck it well. Wouldn't be too surprised to see a Cat 4 come in low. Every dog and all that and chances are he nobbled it along each hole avoiding the crap and had a putt like god day

Well played Rick, but your idea of 'ages' must be different to mine. I went ages, 31 years before a cut.
My last handicap cut was on Aug 17th, (funnily enough that was also a 7 over gross which included 2 double bogies)

Before that it was 24th April with a 4 over gross.....with guess what???? Yep.....2 double bogies........there's a theme emerging here.
