15 Clubs in the Bag

I noticed that in the latest issue of GM, the 'Whats in The Bag' feature had a page on Nick Dougherty. If you count the number of clubs he has in his bag he has 15, one to many wedges because the iron that is hiding behind his 7 iron is the 8. This is not the first time a pro has had 15 clubs in his bag on this feature. Sergio also had 15 clubs aswell, a sneaky little long iron hiding near the back. I'm under the impression that these photo shoots are done at tournaments, so why have the extra club in the bag. Now I know that players like to change their clubs around during the tournaments, just lay the club up against the bag to show that he uses it but its not 'In the Bag'.

I would imagine these are done on the practice range or before the pro-am on a Wednesday so they probably have more than 15 in the bag at times so they can choose the best set up for that particular course and the conditions. I think since Woosie in the Open most caddys are pretty hot on making sure their boss has no more than 14 clubs by the time they tee off.

i read an article a little while back that said if you're just out on the course practicing , it doesn't matter how many clubs you have. The pro's use the same idea on the practice rounds , as Homer stated , so they can get to try out varying shots/clubs around the course.

I went round my course on Saturday with 16 clubs in my bag. Two drivers and 5-Wood & Hybrid 3-iron were the extra clubs. I was seeing which ones I was hitting best.

As long as it wasn't a comp, there's no problem as long as your playing partners agree.

If I entered a serious comp of value to me and had the chance to practice on the course, I would try out clubs to find which suited certain aspects better, Im certain pro's would take any chance to do similar, so long as you dont start with more than 14 it doesnt matter.
