14 Hcap v Tiger... Office Argument

There is a massive difference between the standard of a club professional and PGA tour pro. To put the original question into context and the enormity of the task in one competition when faced with a 440 yd par 4 Tiger took a 3 iron, followed by a 8 iron before putting in from 5 ft.

He hits his 8 iron 180 yds which is 40 yds further than the average club golfer and a 4 iron 220 yds which is as far as most club golfers drive.

However although the distance is impressive his accuracy compared to a club golfer would be frightening.

I think the club golfer would be lucky to 1/2 a few holes and if very lucky he might actually win a hole.

For what it's worth, my thought is that the cappers handicap means if he's playing ok he'll get 2 or 3 doubles, perhaps 6 or 7 pars with the rest bogies. Hcapper can only win a hole if Tiger bogied one against one of his pars. Can assume that Tiger is likely to make a decent few birdies. Spread everything around sort of evenly, and I think the absolute, absolute, best the capper could hope for would be possibly 1 win and a couple of halves - ie 5 down at the turn. Therefore absolute best to be a dog licence and much more likely to be worse.

I think tiger would be more interested in playing from the fairway than matching the high handicapers drive in the rough or the woods, fairway all the way.......
Think Tiger hits his 4 or 5 iron longer than I hit my driver, so no prob for him against me !!

Are we talking uk parkland course in mid January?
If so then im giving the handicap golfer a slightly better chance. 3 and 2.

Be nice to see tiger knock it close when half his balls under water on every shot! Or play his 2 iron stinger when he cant feel his fingers due to the cold!

How about getting backspin when the first bounce puts his ball 6 inch underground!

My guess is tiger would walk off the first time his approach shot leaves him with a face full of mud! Ha ha.

You're all forgetting one important factor. Tiger hasn't had to look for a ball for so long he's lost that sixth sense to know where to look. Easy win for the club player!

Debate being had in the office about an average club golfer playing Tiger at matchplay, off scratch round the amateur's home course. (which is a pretty standard member's parkland course in the UK)

Let's say that average is around 14 handicap. couple of people say that the amateur loses 10 and 8, other camp that the amateur hangs on to lose 7 and 5.

I tend towards the first group, I'd say 70% chance that tiger wins 10 and 8, 30% chance that you get a half and make it to lose 9 and 8.

Other argument is that as the 14 handicapper makes maybe 6 pars in an average round he might halve several holes and hang on longer.

Argument got heated and quite personal, said i'd offer it to the forum to see people's thoughts.... and then say that I was right anyway.

So... thoughts...?

You see this sort of question on WRX quite a bit.

Could a 5 handcap golfer beat an LPGA golfer
Would a 5 handicapper break 80 on an US open course

Etc etc

I would batter Tiger at my course.

I would force him to have a customary breakfast first (including 6 pints) and not allow him to warm up for three hours.

Easy money ;)

Tiger to win 10 & 8. The average guy might make 6 pars, but only on a 6,200 yard course. If they played on a PGA Tour track he won't make 6 pars and Tiger would destroy an average club course.
I have often thought I would like to see a top tour pro play our course, just to see how they would play it as opposed to the amateurs. What they would hit off the tee, where their drives would get to etc

I think that when you're on the 1st tee and he hands you a yoghurt fruit corner thing, just take it cos he knows you're gonna get Mullered!
