10 minute intervals

Just spoken to our county Sec about changes in the current tee times after sending him an email this morning about clubs claiming that E.G. has sanctioned 8 min starts. No change from E.G., clubs haven't approached them and they stress that these were in the guidelines approved by the government and issued by them and shouldn't be ignored.
Just got this from our club this afternoon....

In addition starting from Wednesday 27th May we will be moving to 8 minute tee times. England Golf have confirmed that the original ten minute rule is now only guidance, but that any club which can show a sound tee booking process and car park procedure, to maintain the safety of their members, can move to a shorter time scale. (We cannot move to the 8 minute slots before next Wednesday as members have already got bookings in place.)

A lot of of contradictory advice coming from somewhere. I'll go back to my county.

For clarification, EG have not formally 'approved' a move to 8 min intervals. The 10-minute intervals were agreed by all UK golf bodies in discussion with government ahead of golf’s return. That has not changed but they have now said to me that "ultimately, it is incumbent on the club to make sure that the intervals between tee times allow for social distancing and ensure that government regulations can be safely followed". That, I understand, is what enquiring clubs are being told.

Exactly that, we stayed at 10 mins but other clubs in the area are moving that way because they are more than happy they can keep social distancing with 8 min gaps.

We preferred to start at 10mins but if we could see that we could go to 8 then potentially we would change , it’s easier that way than starting at 8 and finding it a mess.

Yep, silly me, been following Government guidance how old fashioned.

and what sort of a mornoic retort is that. Read what i said and then answer if you have anything sensible to add. I never said anything about not following the social distancing advice just that some of the centraly devised rules to help you do that in golf are not needed and can be handled by clubs as a one-size-fits-all policy is stupid and many flavours can work to the SD aim

Rumour is that our club will be re-opening with 16 minute intervals. Partly to be extra cautious, but mostly because the system is set up for 8 minutes and deleting half the times is easier than resetting it for 10 minutes. You couldn't make it up.

So, with 2 ball groups, that makes slightly less than 8 persons per hour. Hardly seems worth bothering?

Club has reviewed who has played and when over the last week, and has revised our tee booking rules. Still 10 minutes between tee times, but a new constraint.

The new bit is that a member may play no more than 3 rounds in a 'calendar' week (Monday to Sunday), of which no more than two can be in the peak hours (7:30-14:30).

I am thinking this new constraint has come about as a result of the tee being fully booked for 18holes a week ahead with the 'new day' being booked up almost immediately a day is opened up - and I'm guessing that the club has received a number of moans - and spotted some members playing loads :)

We've also pushed our final tee time out from 6:50pm to 7:30pm.

Good to see the club being proactive in trying to keep as many of us content with how things are.

On one hand I can see that as positive to try and give as a many a chance to play as possible but on the flip side if a member pays a four figure sum to play and have 7 day membership then I can see how they'd be annoyed at having their golf restricted. We are allowing golf to be played until 7.15 and everyone MUST be offsite by 7.30 at the latest. There are plans to add later times and stay open longer going forward but nothing announced yet

That's why I think ours is being so fair. Can play everyday but only nine holes with a two tee start. Seems to give everyone a chance.

Along with our email earlier today, they are also planning on adjusting a couple of rules. We were limited to 3 times a week, and....we still are if we want to play before 2pm. But to relieve the logjam of people wanting to play earlier you can play everyday if those extra days are after 2pm. Makes sense to me....might get a few people to avoid the earlier times.

Indeed - but I and many other M-F 9-5 workers in my club pay a four figure sum for seven day membership and I can only play evenings and weekends...I need to have as much chance as possible to grab an weekday evening slot and shouldn't really be having to compete for one of these slots with those who can play any time of the day every day - and that do...

A two tee start wouldn't work great with us as tenth tee is in the middle of nowhere maybe a mile or so from the clubhouse and main car parking.

Subject to approval the club here look like they will go with 4-balls only when they open in two weeks.
Plus one player only to a buggy and the usual 10 min spacing

Various other rules for safe play

This time last week noone was allowed to play golf at all, anyone who's annoyed at "only" being able to play 3 times a week needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

Feeling good about playing, yep. Should I feel "bad" because I want to play more??? Nope. Why should I feel bad? I'd like a new car......and a bigger back garden.....and...and...........wanting something is not evil.

I would love to play more, however I am not remotely annoyed that I can not, I'm grateful for the 2 rounds a week I can play compared to where we were last week. There's only a certain amount of tee times available and I think it's only fair that all members should have an opportunity to play at some point.
