After putting a post up about another option in Maghull, a few forummers recommended Manchester golf club's fitting centre.

I phoned up and the price is £50 for an hour, which apparently includes all the measurements, swing analysis, lesson, as well as fitting. They promise I won't be disappointed. I'm booked in , as I'm playing the course the same day, but having second thoughts.

None of the money comes off the price of the putter, either.

Anyone else had any experiences, is this too much?

I spent £70ish for a lesson with Nick Riley (Harold Swash putting school in Bristol) and he just adjusted my putter to suit (lie angle, lift and length). Has genuinely knocked around 4 shots a round off my scores going by my skycaddie stats! But he is a putter fitting specialist and closer to me than formby!

Considering the amount of money we spend on clubs etc, I think £50 - although still a shock to the system - is a fair price.

Even if the lesson doesn't improve your stroke and the fitting shows your current putter is perfect for you, the peace of mind alone must be worth a bit to your game, not to mention any obsession with putter related purchases down the years.

If it highlights anything wrong, especially to an already low hc, then any help to your game must be worth the price of a cheap wedge.

+1

Though I suggest you ask whether their 'promise you won't be disappointed' actually includes a guarantee! :D

I think reading between the lines it's the fitting he's keen on

The whole package appeals, but the price came at the end of the conversation, which was still a shock, but it is an hour.

I am just having too many 3 putts. I'm having 5-6 1 putts a round, but having 3+ 3 putts, so it is discounting the 1 putts.I regularly used to go round in 29-32 putts, but the last 2 years or so it is sometimes up to 35-36.
6 months ago I bought a spider putter for top whack, but think you can keep chopping and changing and it costs you more in the long run. Maybe a lesson (first ever putting lesson), measuring, swing analysis and all the other things mentioned plus a fitting is worth the £50.

But still £50!! Plus probably a new putter on top. Obviously worked for daddymac, but still appreciate advice, opinions. Or anyone else had a putter fitting at Manchester GC or TourX in Warrington, as might try him for a price also.

£50 in todays money doesnt buy much. It sounds a lot for a fitting but lets be honest, if I take my 3 teenage kids to maccy d's its 20 odd quid which I pay without even thinking about it. A night at the cinema for the 4 of us inc popcorn etc is 40+ (I dont take them as its a con but you get my drift)

Worth every penny if it helps your game imho

If that is the state of your putting now then get it booked lar (learning the lingo on here ;))

I had a putter fitting 2 years ago. I played off 10 at the time.
Walked away with a putter that I'd NEVER have chosen for myself (length AND style).
A month later I was playing off 7.

What's the worst that can happen?

I actually think a putter fitting/lesson for £50 is probably beneficial to most of us over 2 or 3 normal lessons as its the simplest stroke yet potentially can cost/save the most shots over 18 holes!

Damn, got me thinking about having one now lol

£50 does sound a lot mate and i'd probably question it as you are, but it sounds like its an itch you need to scratch.

I suppose in the grand scheme of things if you walk away from there with a putter your happy with and you know is right for you, and it's in the bag for the next five years, it's probably worth it.

this!
I always assumed being 6'2 and having 1/2" longer Irons that I would need a longer putter....use a 32.75 inch putter and am generally between 28-31 putts with the odd 26 or 33. Had 29 putts round Royal Porthcawl in November. I always tell my buddies that if you have one lesson then it should be a putting one!

£50 for a putter fitting sounds excessive to me, especially if that isn't knocked off the price of anything you buy.

I know putters are a very personal thing, and I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it (look at all the weird grips and styles on tour - Jeev Milka Singh springs to mind and he still gets it done), so perhaps dedicated practice is the way forward? Find a putter you like, try a ton of them in doing so and then go use it. I'm sure lie angles, length etc. are 'technically' important, but to me this sometimes seems a bit much when considering a putter. Go with what feels right and comfortable and don't get tied up in the numbers.

At this point in my rambling, I'd like to point out that I'm a streaky putter at best. Hahahaha.
