If you read the op he states what he has done before and asks for feedback on EDEL Putters, I myself replied saying putters are very individual clubs and we are all different.
Mr Hip comes on, says he has no experience of Edel, but take a look at Cure putters with no explanation or even if he uses one himself.
It like someone asking for advice on ToC and someone else coming on and saying take a look at Birkdale.

Sadly it is what happens on forums. People offer opinions, threads go off track, more gets introduced.

I would be looking at it as a two step process.

First of all S.A.M. session to make sure the putting stroke is technically sound. (speaking from experience, changing putters hoping to cure a technical issue is just a work around a is not addressing the main issue)

Second, then look at a custom fit putter knowing your stroke is sound which would hopefully lead to some gains on the greens.

Plenty of nice putters out there.

Completely appreciate your logic and I'm sure that analysis would help.

However this is not a 'fix' and I don't expect to suddenly become a world beater with a new putter. I'm actually reasonably happy with my technique and there are other areas of my game in much bigger need of lessons.

This is primarily treating myself to a shiny new putter, that I plan to own & use for a very long time and will enjoy practising with. So rather than spending £200+ on an off the shelf club that looks the part, spend a bit more and get something completely customised to my eye and preferences.

I'm more attracted to the Edel fitting and how it seems to be focused on helping you aim and align putts. This isn't necessarily anything to do with technique and obviously we are not robots so very unlikely to always make the same stroke and no matter what putter you have, if you don't have decent technique, there isn't a putter that will correct that.

I got one from Brian at beamish as well, superb fitting process and very much an eye opener. I'll not be changing it at all, with it being fit, the style, the markings, the weight, grip the hole lot make it personal to me and my swing.

It always makes me smile, when others ask for a try of mine and then make some negative comment, about it being to heavy or it not feeling right, well no *** sherlock its built for me not you, so yeah, it won't feel right.

They are excellent putters and well worth every penny.

Got a fitting with Karyn Burns at East Kilbride GC booked in.

Unfortunately her Edel fitting kit is offsite so not booked till 17th December.

She says the finished Edel product is now coming in at £395! So am definitely going to try and assess that there will definitely be performance advantages with the Edel (which I think there will be).

The Ping Vault 2.0 Putters look absolutely stunning and have a number of customisable options as well with RRP at £250 or so.

She did it at the Indoor place in Govan.

May as well get her to do the aimpoint course with you too!

😂😂😂😂🙈

I’ve been putting off even looking at what is involved with aimpoint.

However I do think green reading is definitely a big weakness of mine.

One step at a time.

OK, so had my Edel Putter fitting today. It was with Karyn Burns, a PGA Pro at East Kilbride Golf Club.

When I 1st contacted Karyn I was clear that I wanted to pay her for her time and if my existing putter, or an alternative to Edel was as suitable, or more suitable, then I would consider that (and save some money in the process).

Karyn had been very thorough before hand and asked for any putting stats I had. I managed to recall details of my most recent round and also ‘simulated’ a round by playing 18 ‘holes’ on the practice green one morning when I had a spare hour.

We went through the analysis of using the mirror to check my aiming. I was pleasantly surprised that my aiming was pretty good.

I then tried a few 6 foot putts and made them all (bar one) on the nice flat synthetic surface in her pro shop.

It seems that I am happier using the putter face to aim rather than the line on the putter. And any combination of lines, or no lines, on the Edel made no difference. Also we agreed that using the line-up line on the ball wasn’t really necessary and just created an additional factor that I could make a mistake with. My aiming was as good without having the line visible.

Also tried some longer putts outdoors on a pretty decent practice green (given the time of year in Scotland). With both my own putter and the Edel head that I would be suited to (but with a counter weight).

Judging the weight was definitely an issue outside and obviously a weakness compared with my aim and storke. I was certainly not as impressive as I had been indoors with studio conditions. Albeit it got a bit better after I’d hit a few putts.

I quite liked the feel of the Edel. Even the non-counter weighted putter felt heavy and substantial, but Karyn said with the counterweight I was whipping my hands through a bit more. However we both felt I would adjust to whatever I had in my hands but she felt a counter weight would not definitely assist me and so she wouldn’t recommend it.

After considering everything, we both agreed that my existing putter was actually ideal for me. My aiming with this was actually ridiculously good and none of the various Edel set ups were actually quite as good, although all inside the hole.

She gave me a few tips with regards to trying to keep my stroke consistent (i.e. swing the same distance through as I have swung back) and also really to work on keeping my eye and head steady until I have completed the stroke.

Purely on a performance point of view, it was not worth getting an Edel putter. Not that I would have problems with it or couldn’t game it, but to get one made and shipped to the UK is £400. I was prepared to do that if it was going to be an improvement and suit my requirements and I would obviously commit to having the putter for the long-term, but in reality there is no point to this as I can either keep my existing putter or easily find an ideal putter for me ‘off the shelf’ or with a bit of fine tuning.

She gave me a note with the ‘specs’ of my ideal putter.
Anser style blade head
Length 34 inches
Lie 68 to 70 degrees
340g head weight
No counter weight required

I also have a preference for a metal face, rather than a non-metal insert.

I paid her £35 for her time and expertise for an hour, plus a bit of prep time and e-mail correspondence before hand. Was very impressed with her and she certainly knows her stuff. Will consider an aimpoint session with her in the spring.

I am therefore currently deliberating between the following options;
  • keeping my existing old Cleveland Classic (and maybe getting a new shaft on it as the existing shaft has a bit of rust).
  • looking at second hand options of Ping and Scotty Anser style putters and see what I can get that meets my specs
  • going to a specialist Ping or Scotty retailer and asking if they stock my ideal putter new OR if they can provide one
Preference slightly for a Ping Vault 2.0 Dale Anser with a copper finish. This is a 350g head, but Karyn advised this would almost certainly not be a problem for me. Not looked at the Scotty range in a lot of detail yet.

I’ve got two.... (for sale if anyone makes a suitable offer !) I found like any fitting, they suit the swing / stroke on the day of the fitting. Unfortunately I was fitted indoors in jan then went out to try on the slow putting green.

Are the a quality build ? Yes absolutely...
will they cure your putting ills ? ... possibly, but be aware, your stroke needs to be reliable and repetitive, for feel they are out of this world.. best out there by far.

However, I think the sweets spot is small any as a club the moi is not as high as other similar putters. Also, the toe hang idea that Edel putters are built around was tried by odyssey and crashed and burned.... gone from the line up in one season.

It’s an expensive risk to try and get fitted then find it doesn’t work, you could try a second hand one then get fitted if they suit you 😉

But then I would say that !

Karyn knows her stuff.

Why consider another putter after what she said and recommended?

Really it’s just a case of having something shiny and new - no more than vanity.

But at least I know what I’m buying is suited to me rather than hitting a dozen putts then dropping £349 on a Scotty without knowing if it is better, or as good, as what I have.

My Cleveland is old and rusty. The head is in decent enough nick. It only cost me £80 in 2012, owes me nothing.

I could probably spend £30 or £40 to get a new shaft & grip & if it was a more premium product then I would. And may end up doing that if I ever have a ‘home’ bag and an ‘away’ bag.

However very attracted to Ping Vault 2.0 Dale Anser Copper finish. Looks the biz & pretty sure it can be fine tuned to the specs I need.

Sounds like a fantastic experience and I guess reassuring that the putter you have is actually doing the job for you. I guess if you want a new putter have a look around. I would definitely look at Scotty, Ping and Odyssey and try as many as you can. At the end of the day if you can't find anything else you know what you have is sufficient
