Your weekend Comp 22/23 June - How did it go

Does anybody know why some clubs dont have many qualifiers? They must have some reasons or is it just laziness on their part? I cant see why clubs wouldnt want to have comps? Puzzles me.

There are comps at our club most weekends, there just not qualifiers due to stopping at the halfway house for drinks & food in the captains, presidents & professionals weekend comps which because of that they all become a non-qualifiers, various mixed better ball, pairs, foursomes, greensomes again all non-qualifiers. For this month (June) I have only 1 medal on a weekend and 1 midweek stableford for handicap purposes, its the same for next month also (July) its not enough!

Strong winds and rain and only 2 people under par. I shot a net 74 to stay in the buffer zone. A routine round for me about 5 nice pars and a birdie, could have done without the 2 8's and 2 7's though.

So if you stop at halfway house they become non qualifying? Or is there a bit more to it than that? Never knew that was the case.

Seems a shame they cant do 1 qualifying comp per weekend and do other pairs, team comps etc on the other weekend day. Theres no qualifiers all winter usually so its seems a waste using a lot of weekends up on team comps.

Apparently that is the case.

If a round is not flowing from 1 - 18 and you stop for a hot drink and sandwich, then it becomes a non-qualifier, this is what we are told. We've argued this as some excellent scores were shot last weekend on our Captains W'end and just because they stopped at the halfway house for a complimentary drink and burger, they weren't cut even though there were scores well over 40 in all divisions, we have even asked for reductions only on such days of which we have about 4 per season, and they said no!

I hope it's your lot who have got this wrong and not ours as our halfway hut is in use for all comps.

Hopefully Duncan or somebody else can clarify?

Be interested in the CONGU UHS reference for that!

Not a good weekend.

Knew it would be tough in the winds and sqaulls so happy with 5 over (40) going out. Then a tough stetch of holes mostly across or into the wind and a double, triple, par, quad, finsh gave me 91 for a net 79. :o:(

Ah well there's always next week.

I played RUBBISH in the club comp again gone is the memory of being 6.6 needing only one more decent comp to get down ................. wont bore ye or sicken me with the details ..............:D time to look out the tennis rackets again me thinks ...................:p

Scratch 4somes league match on Saturday. We won our game 3&2 to contribute to a 5.5 - 0.5 overall win.

2more points from final 4 games will clinch promotion. Goal is to 'do an Arsenal' and go all season unbeaten - we have dropped one point as a team, with a 100% win rate personally - game on! :)

Another Buffer, played steady but too many doubles (4), i thought the css would go up and halfway around it Hissed it down, unfortunly the 3 guys that ull shot under CSS all played first so were in by the time it rained;(

Captain's prize for us yesterday it was very windy, played really well first nine apart from my putting, missed 4 putts from inside 3 feet and still played to handicap. I then 4 putted the 10th from 15 feet!!! then driving went wayward for a few holes, finally lost my ball on the last, still only finished only 2 shots behind the winner but 4th overall on CPOs with 2nd and 3rd.

Last 16 of club champs. Was playing a boy off 2. I won 17 to get it back to all square.

On 18 we're both on the green in 2. I have about 12 foot for birdie, he has just under 10ft, both quite a bit of turn in them. Mine lips out, he holes. I'm out!! Done well to run him close, but thought my putt was in all the way till it lipped.

Such is life, but was a magic buzz going up the last hole.

Me too, as much as I enjoy social golf I prefer the comps and the more the better as it's the only way really to have an accurate handicap.

So what happens if you have a sandwich and a flask in your bag and stop on a tee for 5 when play is slow in front of you? Sounds very strange.

Low handicappers win Captain's Weekend Texas Scramble. Aggregate 22 - 4,4,6,8 - shot gross 18under

Good to see low boys winning a club fun comp and even better they are all really good guys and club members - no airs and graces with that 4 ball.

Nothing, its all about discontinuance of play apparently where you are discontinuing play to take refreshments. There are a few members well miffed about the limited amount of qualifiers we have only then to shoot an excellent score on one of these days but they won't count it as a qualifier because we all stop to have a drink and burger. There is no delay to anyone behind because they ALL do the same!

I can see me moving next season which will be a shame as its a good track and social craic.

Would be a shame mate, you do talk well of your club but if its qualifying comps your after then needs must I suppose.

I'm not going to get cut with only 2 qualifiers a month over the summer months am I? When people say that you should only hit or play below your handicap 3 from 10, what chance do I have to get down on such rations! Its a sprint in crap weather at the start and then nothing when the course is at its best, total numpty's on the committee me thinks.

I know it's not the same 'fun' but you can always submit qualifying cards at any time if it's handicap adjustments you are after? But agree - qualifying comps are quite a different kettle of fish than just submittiung a Q-card.
